Irene P. Platukis, 85, of Tomhicken Road, Fern Glen, passed away Tuesday morning at Mountain City Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Hazleton, after being in ill health since January.
Born in Fern Glen, Sept. 13, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Pauline (Mocek) Pekala Sr. and spent most of her life in Fern Glen.
She was a homemaker and a member of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Nuremberg, where she, along with a group of women, would recite the rosary prior to Saturday evening Mass.
Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents, were her husband, George Platukis Sr., who passed away in 1973; a grandson, James Platukis, who passed away Dec. 30, 2006; and brothers, Anthony Jr., George and Joseph.
Surviving are children, George Platukis Jr., Fern Glen; Paulette Platukis, Conyngham; Paul Platukis and his wife, Dolores, West Hazleton; and James Platukis and his wife, Barbara, Surrey, N.C.; nine grandchildren; nine greatgrandchildren; three greatgreat- grandchildren; a brother, Richard Pekala, Hazleton; and many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in St.
Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Nuremberg.
Interment will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Weston.
Friends may call at the church Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.
