Kathryn Elizabeth Bognet, 92, of West 15th Street, Hazleton, passed away Monday evening after a long, fulfilling life made richer by a large, loving family, a legion of friends and a host of admirers. Born on May 20, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Francis and Elizabeth (Balliet) Gillespie of Hazleton.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Michael, who died in 1990.
Kathryn was a longtime employee of Bell Telephone, where she was a supervisor of her many beloved “Bell Girls.”
She enjoyed beadwork, arts and crafts, knitting and Animal Planet, but she primarily enjoyed spending time with her loving family and her spoiled cat, Sandy.
Kathryn was a member of Queen of Heaven Parish at Our Lady of Grace Roman Catholic Church, Hazleton.
Surviving are her daughters, Leanne Newton, Bear Creek; and Joanne Rees and her husband, Don, Durham, N.C.; her grandson, Scott Newton, Wilkes-Barre; her granddaughters, Sarah Newton, Philadelphia; and Megan Rees, Durham, N.C.; her sister, Dorothy Brown, Hazleton; her nephews, Neil and Dennis; her niece, Patricia; as well as several other nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 9 a.m. from John J. Pusti Funeral Home Inc., 480 W. Broad St., Hazleton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Our Lady of Grace Roman Catholic Church, Hazleton, at 9:30 a.m.
Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Drums.
Friends may call Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. A prayer service will be conducted.
