Rufus Olten Umholtz, highly respected resident of Sacramento, died suddenly at his home Monday evening from a heart ailment.
Born December 20, 1875, he was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Umholtz, and a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Sacramento. He taught in the Sunday school for many years. He was a retired teacher of the Hubley Township Schools, having taught for forty-two years, a supervising principal for six.
He was a graduate of Kutztown Normal School and studied at Bucknell University. He was Justice of the Peace in Hubley Township for twenty-five years, past master of Swatara Lodge Free and Accepted Mason of Tremont, and secretary of the lodge for sixteen years. He was also a member of the Williamsport Consistory, Williamstown. Two sons Oren, Valley View, and Robert, Columbus OH survive, as do two grandchildren.
Funeral is Thursday afternoon from the A R Buffington Funeral Home, Valley View. Services will be conducted by the Rev. D I Sulzbach, Lutheran pastor; burial will be in Union Cemetery.
