Kenneth L. Sausser, 56, answered his last alarm Saturday after a courageous battle with cancer at Schuylkill Medical Center-East Norwegian Street.
Born in Ashland, Nov. 16, 1956, he was a son of Geraldine Walaitis Sausser and the late Lamar Sausser.
He was a 1974 graduate of North Schuylkill High School.
He was an avid outdoorsman, a firefighter with Altamont Fire Company, West Mahanoy Township and a member of American Hose Company No. 1, Ashland, since April 1977.
He was a PIAA basketball and softball referee/umpire, as well as an ASA girls softball umpire.
He was employed as a meat cutter at Boyer's Food Markets, Inc., Shenandoah.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his loving wife, Linda S. Johnson Sausser, to whom he was married for 33 years; his son, Kenneth and his wife, Ciara, South Williamsport; his daughter, Katheryn Sausser, at home; two grandchildren, Joshua and Maladia Sausser, South Williamsport; two brothers, Randall Sausser, Frackville, and Ronald Sausser, Reading; an uncle, Robert Walaitis, Frackville; nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Ann Roman Catholic Church, Frackville, with the Rev. Robert Finlan and Monsignor William Glosser concelebrating. Relatives and friends are invited to call from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Albert L. Gricoski Funeral Home, Frackville. Interment will be in Christ Church Cemetery, Fountain Springs. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Altamont Fire Company, 209 S. Green St., Frackville, PA 17931 and/or American Hose Company No. 1, Seventh and Walnut streets, Ashland, PA 17921. Albert L. Gricoski Funeral Home, Frackville, has charge of arrangements.
