Cherryville and Ravine are pretty much the same place just outside of Pine Grove, Schuylkill Co. Recently was there and was told that the cemetery to the right of the one labeled St. Matthew's was called the Union Cemetery. My great-great grandmother is buried there as well as her brother and his wife, but haven't been able to find actual records for the cemetery, not just transcriptions of the stones. If anyone knows where I might find records from the mid to late 1800s for these cemeteries, I'd appreciate the help.

I think they used to call that cemetery or that area Cherryville, because in a few obits and other records it says buried at Cherryville and they are actually buried at St. Matthews Cemetery in Pine Grove. I've been there to see headstones. But thanks anyhow. Must be a different Cherryville.
Hey Mark,

Yeah, I don't think it's the same person. That's to bad I was hoping it was. The man in question on my end (Anton Edvard Lindqvist) is born in 1863 and immigrated in 1882. He disappeared from Philadelphia about 1893 and I though that it may possible that he was the father of your Anton Edwin Lindquist. How convenient that would have been. Yeah the 1890 census being destroyed is definitely not helpful. My Lindqvists are all from southern Sweden perhaps we find we are connected there at some point.
Johnny in MA

Hi Johnny,

It's certainly a possibility that I have the wrong person as Anton's father. I feel pretty good about the 1900 census record as referring to Nels with a date of birth of 1843 and immigration yr of 1877. The 1890 census would have really helped out here.

I was not aware of a cousin or that Anton had any aunts or uncles from Sweden living in PA. There were a lot of Swede's in Warren, and my Aunt Emily talks about Anton's family living at a place called "Swede Hill". She also has some recollection of the names Nels and Erick being mentioned from childhood.

The name of the child who died in 1894 was John E and would have been 14 at time of death. I just checked the 1880 Census and it shows a Nelson, Annie L. and John with ages that match the 1900 census, plus a two year old daughter Amanda living in Pine Grove.

Hope we can sort it out.

Thanks!
Mark in Kentucky

Hi Mark,

Thanks for your note. So, Here is why I ask. I have an Anton Edvard Lindqvist in my tree (born 1863 Swedeb) who could have been the father to your Anton Edwin Lindquist. I have seen him listed as A.E. Lindquist which perhaps is what the 1900 census is supposed to show if indeed we are on tract to the same person. Your Anton Edwin Lindquist would have also had a first cousin born a year or two before him in Philadelphia that died in infancy named Edwin. All of the parents in question would be born in Sweden. In 1893 Anton Edvard Lindquist was working in Philadelphia as a shoeamaker and after that we lost track. We figure he died young perhaps it was he who died in 1894 with Anna? It is a mystery that has baffled me and a couple memebers of the family for a while. Would love to find out that you guys were his descendants.

Johnny,

Anton is my wife's great grandfather. I believe his parents were Nels and Anna who are also buried in the Pinegrove cemetery. The Pine Grove 1900 census (line 37) shows a "Ne* Seindquist" living with Erick V and Anthony E Seindquist. In Pine grove. I believe this to be the Lindquist family in question. Anthony (Anton) is listed as 13 at this time and Erick is listed as 47 due to some stray marks on the page but it should read 18. The handwriting is pretty bad. According to the headstone Anna and another child died in 1894.

http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSln=LI...;

Hi Sharman,

Phillip Bachert was the son of Nicholas Bachert who died in Columbia County in 1824. He also was the Administrator of his father's estate.

This is confirmed by both the Alleban report to Augustus Ellsworth Bachert (compiled about 1900, and can be found online via google) and by an 1839 lawsuit for Partition of Nicholas Bachert's real property in Columbia County.

Not everything in the Alleban report is dead on, but, in this regard, the OC records confirm his alignment for Phillip and his family with Barbara Kantner.

Hope this helps!

Joe Hittle
4G-Grandson of Nicholas Bachert via the "missing son" of the Alleban report, Anthony Bachert.

If you ever have the chance to do so, I would greatly appreciate it. I have always felt Ludwig was either the first born in America or the first to immigrate. This would definitely help in solving this mystery.

Thanks.

Do you happen to know where they may have gotten this information?

I saw this same info online years ago, and whomever had posted it stated that he was a son of I believe Hans Martin Kuemmerlin and Anna Maria Kohler. It also stated that Hans and Anna brought with them from Germany a total of 7 children, namely Ludwig, Hans Martin, Anna Maria, Mathaus Jacob, another Anna Maria, Hans Casper and Christianus.

I did find a book on German immigrants and ship's passengers lists that does show Hans and Anna. However, it only shows them arriving with 2 children, Matthaus Jacob and Christianus.

The next person named after Hans Martin was his brother, Johannes and his wife Eva. They came to America with 5 children, Johann Michael, Anna, Johann Georg, Anna Maria and Johann Jacob. Again, no mention of a Ludwig.

These all arrived in Philadelphia aboard the "Nancy" on 16 SEP 1751, from Schlaitdorf.

It is possible that Ludwig was part of one of these 2 families, but I have never found anything proving this, though I would love for someone to show me something I have overlooked/totally missed.

Thanks.

I am taking digital pictures of St. John's cemetery and listing them online at find-a-grave. I have not found any Hafner or Klotz up to now. I do not have the listing of the cemetery, but I do live in Pine Grove area. If I know what section the graves are in, I can get the pictures for you. This is a very large cemetery. However, it is too cold right now to get any pictures. As soon as it warms up and I have time I will resume my project. Have you tried to contact the church?

Sharman, this is Cindy Pelfrey. I don't know if you remember me.We were in conact a long time ago about the Lehman family. Since then I have found out that Jeremiah K. Lehman's mother's maiden name was Mary DeLong. Her father was John DeLong. I thought her maiden name was Maiytt. Her husband (Jeremiah's father) was Adam. I found her maiden name on Adam and Mary's son Abel's obit. His obit is very thorough. He was born near Berrysburg it said.

Does anyone understand what the following means: "Pine Grove Twp PA 49"? I get this for a Peter Kehley under Revolutionary Graves Abstract. Does it mean a specific cemetary in Pine Grove Twp?

Any help would be appreciated.

Well, I found the post from 2001 and was wondering if anyone ever determined who Jonathan or Julia's parents were? There also seemed to be uncertainty if Jonathan served in the 173 Co.I or the 116 Co.F, perhaps he was part of both? I have a picture of the marker for the Jonathan who served in the 173rd, taken at St. Peters. Jonathan and Julia are 3rd great grandparents of mine through their daughter Elizabeth. Lots of time has passed since 2001, thought there may have been some discoveries, my tree is available on Ancestry.
