Can anyone tell me whether the original *paper* copies of Pennsylvania birth certificates exist and can be accessed, or are they destroyed after being microfilmed?
I ordered a copy of my great-grandfather's 1942 death certificate from the Department of Vital Records. In the section that's supposed to list parents' names, there's a handwritten note saying "see back of page." Since the copy I received was a printout from the microfilm, no back page was included.
I phoned the Department of Vital Records but never received a reply.
Is there any hope of my ever getting access to the original paper document so that I can see what's written on the back?
Thanks in advance to anyone who can offer insight.
