I have a will of a Benedict Arnold dated back in the early 1700s. He made this will in Newport and was left in the care of Mr. potter whose family lived near our home. He mentions Mr. Sheffield. His g-grandson was taken care of by my mother and father before his death and this will was among the many things that was left. I know of the Sheffields for they had a business deal with my father over property some years ago.
I believe he was a stepbrother of "THE BENEDICT ARNOLD."
I also have two books of well known familys of RI and this was mentioned. The dates seem to fit but someone else has told me that they believe he was a cousin of the "Govener Benedict Arnold of RI." If anyone has any info. please contact me for I would like to know something soon. I am thinking of giving this to the RI Historical Society, unless Newport Historical Society may be interested.
