Anyone have access to a list? I'm researching Henry A. Myers and Peter E. Myers. A book suggests these two provided the first Berkeley County Court house temporarily once Moncks Corner was made the county seat in 1895. Any leads would be helpful.

My mother and uncle were abandoned in the late 50's. It is rumored their mothers name is Carlotta Gordine or Gourdine. I have been searching for this woman my whole life just to give my mother some explainations to what happened. If anyone knows anything I would appreciate it.

I am looking for any information on John & Elizabeth HAIR WATSON who married 1788 in Berkeley Co. They migrated to Mason Co., KY where John died circa 1811. Elizabeth & children Rebecca, John, Mary, Hiram & Anderson appear in Washington Co.,PA in early 1811 seeking guardianship for these children. Guardianship was granted to John HARE & James H. WATSON, who I suspect is Elizabeth's oldest son. A court record inicates Elizabeth's death in 1819 in Washington Co., PA. All of the above children just disappear after 1819. Any clues to this family would be appreciated.

Yes, this is the same family. Mary seemingly had wild adolescence but she settled down around age 23 and married John Stone. Mary's brother's Andrew, John, and Jonathan went to SC to the Cainhoy plantation but I have in my data that Mary and John died in MA. I know at least two of their children, John and Hannah ended up in the same area in SC.

Am writing a book about the Russ family and would like to know more.
This may be a long shot but I'm looking for any trace of my gggg grandfather, Tom Durant. He had three daughters while living in S.C. His youngest daughter was Maranda AKA Rannie. He left there and went to MS around 1862 or 1863. I found that strange because he was a slave. I was wondering if there would have been any newspapers about a slave runaway with 3 daughters. Or did something happen in South Carolina during that time that would have allowed to just leave of his own free will?

The only dilemma I truly have is that Tom wasn't always a Durant. He changed his last name to that when he went to MS so I don't have a clue on how to trace anything related to South Carolina.

Orin Hollis Miller's mother, Lucinda Owens, was the sister of my great grandfather, George Cannon Owens, Jr. I found a photo of Orin's headstone on Findagrave, Summerville, SC cemetery.

http://image2.findagrave.com/photos/2011/311/54973137_132079...

http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSln=Mi...;

Their father George Cannon Owens was born in 1810 and died 1884. He and his second wife mother of Lucinda are burried at Wassamassaw Baptist Church just north of Goose Creek. She was a McCants with a well documented family history. Photos of their headstones can be found on line as well. Where I've drawn a blank is who are George Cannon Owens' parents. I belive it is William as he was the exor of George Cannon's estate. The area is still rural but seeing rapid growth in the last couple of years. The property around Wassamassaw church is a newly formed gated community.

George and his family spent most of their life in this area but sometime during the 1850-1860 period moved to Edisto and lived in one of the first beach houses, History of Edisto 1610-1860. I imagine with the Civil War they lost everything their and returned to Goose Creek area. Lucinda and her sister Susan J. Owens Winter per census records continued to live in this area apparently as neighbors.

I find it interesting that Lawrence P. Miller's mother was Martha Cannon.

So if you have anything on any of these families going back to the early 1800's and before please let me know.

Roy Owens
Decatur, AL

Looking for any additional info about the Miller family of Second St. James, Goose Creek, specifically Orin Hollis Miller (aka Ollie, O.H., Harley, Oren) and his wife, Dorcas Smith Miller (aka Darcus, Darkis). My grandmother was one of their children and I know from her that Ollie was killed in 1920. I found his death certificate, wherein his name is erroneously listed as "Harley", but am not able to find other documents or newspaper articles referring to his death. My grandmother and all of her siblings are deceased and I would very much like to piece together the story of their childhood. Any links or information are greatly appreciated!

I am tracing the African American Gourdine line from Jessie Gourdine Gadsden to her mother Josephine Gourdine and her father William Gourdine(1837). WIlliam's death certificate indicates that his parents are Robert Gourdine (1812) and Dafney Gourdine. William is listed as Negro. The remainder of the family line is listed as white, going back to the 1600's. I know that many mulattoes passed for white, and that many plantation owners often had children with their slaves. But I am concerned that I may be tracing the wrong line. I am wondering if you have any information on this family and if there are any known separate lines African American and White?

Sorry you are correct. Joeanna married Thomas. What I actually ment was Josephine, their Daughter. Also another connecting with the same family, Josephine and Ada were sisters, they married Brown brothers, William Woodrow (b.3 Aug 1902 D. 28 Jan 1975) & Monroe Lawton (b. 3 Jun 1908 d.11 Jan 1995) Josephine and Woodrow married in Nov 8 1922. I have not found a marriage date for Lawton & Ada.

I have found a census for 1860 that lists his parents as William Brown B.1830 and Amelia b. 1840 but can find not listing after this. Of all the research I have done, I believe that Amelia's maiden name is Rivers and her mother was Mariah Rivers.
Also looking for the parents of Harvey Revette Murphy b. Sep 12, 1867. His wife is Jessie Adella Johnson b. Apr 14, 1875, I have found her parents and believe it or not her mother is listed at Mariah Rivers. Her father is Charlie Johnson.
I am also looking for Josh's siblings. I did find an obituary that listed his siblings that were still alive at his death and the girls are listed with married names but no husband's names are mentioned.
Thanks for the help!

We have been trying to locate you guys for years.
Would you send me an email through chikinmamma@yahoo.com? Then I will give you my other email and we can talk. I have so many questions for you. The last time I saw your family was at the reunion in 1982 and I don't remember without looking at pictures how many of you were there. I would love to have a copy of his obit. I have been putting together a notebook of all the aunts and uncles and needed his.
Wondered the same thing myself when I was researching a
family in NC and a grant was given in 1778; apparently before 1776 when the Declaration of Independence was signed the land all belonged to the King who granted land through
the Lords Proprietors, and I think they had to settle on it and pay quit rents for a period of time before they could be granted the land and then had to pay for it. You might look up the procedure for land grants in South Carolina but
I believe all of them probably were pretty much the same.
Good luck!

I know that William was adopted by Elisha Mellard; was Celia Susan Harry Mellard William's natural mother? Was she married at one time to an Owens (Owins), who might have been William's natural father? Does anyone know from which Owenses (Owinses) we descend?

Sincerely,
Bill Fuller in Texas
