The following information is copied from Elijah Shettles' book Recolections of a long life- "Elijah Buchanan came from Tuscaloosa, Ala about 1847, settling on Bird's Creek (Pontotoc, Ms). He was a widow with one son and three daughters. He later married my aunt Mary Shettles.His brother, Obadiah lived with his large family in the lower flatwoods where the road from Oxford to New Albany crossed the Lagatubee Creek. He was born April 10, 1809 in Alabama."
