Sanford, was the eight child, of Jacob and Catherine Martin. Jacob was on a business trip to Charleston and stopped by Edgefield to meet his Martin relatives and fell in love with his cousin Catherine. He brought her back to Anderson County, SC and married her. They are bruied in a family graveyard near Six and Twenty Baptist Church. Their graves are marked as follows: Jacob Martin B. April 24, 1790 d. Oct 6, 1876, m. Jan 31, 1816. Catherine b. March 13, 1791 d. Oct 22, 1877. They had ten children Polly, William, Frances, Thomas, Elizabeth, William Chesley, James Sanford Martin, Charity, and Kiziah.
Sanford was the eighth child born Feb 14, 1829 and died sept. 5, 1897. He married Temperance Watkins Smith, a civil war widow with 3 children. Her children were Mattison, Cindy and Alice. Cindy married a Wilson and Alice married a Morris . Children born to Sanford and Temperance were
Baylos J, George, Marion, Luther, Joe, Arthur, John Elihu, and two twin daughters. one died at eight and the other at 16. Sanford and Tempie are buried in the Martin Family burial ground on what was the Arthur Martin homeplace, Piercetown, SC. Temperance was born Mar 12, 1838 and died Aug 25, 1888 they were married in 1867 in 1868, Hope this helps
