I am trying to find out who the parents of my great, great grandfather, William HAMILTON, b. 25 Jul, 1783 (some records give 1785) in/around the Pendleton District, or the Old 96th District as some records give. Nothing is known about his parents, childhood until he moved to Claiborne Co., TN, and mar. Rachel HUNTER, also born, 15 Mar, 1791 or 1792 in Weaver's Creek, in what is now known as Pickens Co.,SC,. She was the dau. of Henry HUNTER, and Barbara BOLINGER. Henry HUNTER was the son of Rev. War soldier, John HUNTER, and Barbara BOWMAN. William mar. Rachel HUNTER in Speedwell, Claiborne Co., TN, in 1808, and from there we have more data. William was Captain of an East Tennessee Militia Company in Col. Lilliard's Regiment in the War of 1812. He had brothers, Joseph HAMILTON, b. 1773, in IRELAND,(later a surgeon in the War of 1812) James HAMILTON, Sr., and possibly a brother named Samuel HAMILTON if already born.
