Regiment 4, Anderson, SC

Classification: Query
I am hoping someone with more familiarity with the Anderson County area can help me out. In 1860, I have a potential match for my g-g-grandfather in Regiment 4, Anderson, SC.

In 1900, I have him living in Brushy Creek, Anderson SC. I know he married my g-g-grandmother at the same location in 1889.

I am unable to find him conclusively in the 1880 or 1870 censuses. Where would "Regiment 4" be located today? Are they related to the military somehow? There are two regiments listed in the 1860 census, 4 and 42.

Please let me know if more detail would be useful.
