Daughter of James Cuthbert Shecut and Alice Foreman, his wife.
Granddaughter of Lineaus Shecut and Alvina E. Brown, his wife.
Gr.-granddaughter of James Brown and Laura Pinckney, his wife.
Gr.-gr.-granddaughter of Thomas Pinckney and Elizabeth Motte, his wife.
Gr.-gr.-gr.-granddaughter of Charles Pinckney and Frances Brewton, his wife; Jacob Motte and Rebecca Brewton, his wife.
Charles Pinckney, (1731-82), was President of the first Provincial Congress and of the first State Senate. He was born and died in Charleston, S. C.
Rebecca Brewton Motte, (1738-1815), was one of the distinguished women of the Revolution. Her patriotism and sacrifice throughout the struggle have made her name immortal.

SHECUT, JOHN LINNÆUS EDWARD WHITRIDGE, physician, scientist, author, was born Dec. 4, 1770, in Beaufort, S. C. He was a once eminent physician and scientist of Charleston, and the author of Flora Carolinensis; Medical and Philosophical Essays; Elements of Natural Philosophy; and A New Theory of the Earth. He died in 1836 in Charleston, S. C.
