MITCHELL
I am looking for information about my ggggggrandparents. I
believe that David Mitchell was born in North Carolina and married a
woman named Anna (Ann). I have information that they resided for a time
in Chester County and have found the following rather ignoble
information:
There exists in Chester County, South Carolina court documents dating
from 1798 that state that a David D. Mitchell was put on trial for
abusing his wife, Ann. On July 25, 1798, he was found guilty in a trial
by jury and ordered to pay fines amounting to five pounds sterling, with
costs, and the sheriff was ordered to remand him into custody. David was
to remain in prison, without bail or mainprise, until the fines and fees
were paid in full.
The following day the jury reconsidered their verdict and sentenced
David to a year in prison:
"On reconsideration of the above court has considered above David
Mitchell a dangerous person who ought to be bound to his good behavior
and therefore order that he be confined in prison until he finds
sufficient security for his good behavior for one year".
That is all I know about David and Ann in South Carolina. I have much
information to share for anybody researching
SELF. The brothers, John, Edward, and Ezekial SELF, as children, arrive
Chester County SC in late 1780's. The 1790 census shows no father in Chester
for them. By 1793 & 1795 John and Edward acquire property and begin families.
In 1800 census, only Edward Self appears with his family. John Self and Family
and brother Ezekial, now 20 years old, don't show. Only possibility we come up
with is that father Self didn't make it to Chester, that a widowed mother Self
has remarried, and thats where the boys are in Chester County. What Family?
Anyone have some extras in their family census that you can't account for?
John and Edward Self left Chester in 1805, however we never found record of
them selling their land - this not selling had to create a legal nightmare for
someone, but not found in records. The SELF, ATTERBERRY, COTTRELL, JAGGER, and
others removed to Hart/Barren counties Kentucky. Will exchange with anyone,
anything to do with the SELF Family.
