The Robert Black who married Nancy Rice was the father of Sheriff Robert Black. The Sheriff was married twice.
Sheriff Black was born 5 Sept 1822 and passed away 29 July 1896. He was buried at Carters Ford Baptist Church, Colleton County, SC. His first wife was Elizabeth Caldwell. she was born 20 July 1821 and passed away either on 4 Oct 1865 or in Feb. 1865.

His second wife was Jane Elizabeth Smith. 1 January 1841 to
14 July 1922. She was buried in Live Oak Cemetery, Walterboro, SC. On page 43, of- COLLETON COUNTY: A PICTORIAL HISTORY by the Colleton County Histroical Society is a photograph of Robert Black and a woman said to be his first wife. Judging by the apparent age difference the lady in the picture was his second wife.
The 1880 census indicates they were living in Verdier Township Colleton County. Walterboro is in Verdier Township.
At least two children from his first marriage, Melinda and Nancy were still living with him. Sheriiff Black and Jane had 7 children:
