I am hoping someone can help with a newspaper lookup. Our first cousin Ralph W. Miller, a Captain in the Army Air Force, was killed in a plane crash on Dec. 5, 1944 near Walterboro in Colleton County. He was stationed at the Charleston Army Air Base. After surviving over 60 successful missions in the Southwest Pacific in a Liberator bomber, he came back to the U.S. in August 1944 to be an instructor. Ralph earned the Distinguished Flying Cross. He got married to Martha in September 1944. He was riding as an instructor in a bomber when it collided with a pursuit plane. There were no survivors. The family was told the pilot of the pursuit plane was drunk and should not have been flying. Can someone look in either Charleston or Walterboro newspapers after Dec. 5, 1944 to see if there were articles about the crash? I have his South Carolina death certificate. He was buried on Dec. 9 in Birmingham, Alabama where his parents lived. I am trying to find the cemetery name. Capt. Miller's only sibling, Lt. Arthur L. Miller, went missing in a bombing raid over Germany in April 8, 1944 and was never found. If any newspaper articles are found, I would appreciate hearing from you and thank you in advance.
