William L. M. Austin did not died in Virginia in 1861. He became sick with typhiod fever and was sent home to Gilder Plantation in Simpsonville, SC where he died.. He is buried at Bethel U.M.Church in Simpsonville. He was Captain in the Davis Guard, Sixteenth SC Regiment. He started the company and outfitted the men but when he was needed as a Doctor he resigned his command his oldest son took over the company.
