Mr. Dodson, thanks for your query - all I know about the Dodson/Estes connection is that Obadiah Estes, son of Charles and Mary Thaxton, m. Anna Dodson, supposed to be dau. of Joel Dodson. Their son was Joel Dodson Estes who m. Charlotte Scott - this marriage probably was c. 1800, possibly a little after. This is my direct line, but am sorry to say I know very little about this time period in the family history. Surely there are many connections we don't know about yet.
