Where have all the Eleazer descendants gone? For years, I have tried to find descendants of Henry Eleazer and Nancy Haltiwanger who can tell me about the family. .

I have numerous unidentified Eleazer pictures that I am hoping someone can identify. These were made in the mid to late eighteen hundreds.

During a recent visit to the Laurance Corley Cemetery in Lexington, S.C. I found that his original headstone is missing. The DAR marker is still there. Since the original marker was split vertically, I wonder if someone may have removed it to have it repaired. If anyone has any additional information please let me know - is this an act of vandalism or is a good samarian at work?

Wendell Corley

Wash Fallaw, Alma Watson, Anna Hartley, Minnie Clamp

I am looking for information on the family of Green Washington Fallaw. His nickname was "Wash." He was the son of Lewis and Mary Stone Fallaw. He was born about 1822 and died in 1886. Summary of information that I have:

In 1845, purchased 42 acres of land from Lewis Fallaw (father) in Lexinton District for $100. Named as heir of Lewis Fallaw in petition in Court of Ordinary, Lexington District 1847. Received State of South Carolina Land grant. (I have several other land records.) He attended Bethel Baptist Church near Monetta beginning in 1856 through 1870's. He married Frances Harrell in late 1850's. Children included America, Lula, Geraldine, Minnie and Cayce Butler. He had another son Wade Hampton Fallaw, but his death certificate indicates his mother was Alma Watson (not Frances Harrell). He served in CSA. In early 1880's, Wash married Anna Hartley and they had two children: Lee Washington Fallaw and Bessie Fallaw. Wash Fallaw died in 1886. Anna Hartley Fallaw requested to be administrator of estate in Aiken County Court in February 1887. I have details on most of Wash's children.

I am looking for information on Frances Harrell, Alma Watson, Minnie (daughter - believe she maaried Edward Clamp), and Anna Hartley Fallaw (see married Jesse Scott after Wash died).

Any information would be appreciated. I will share documents that I have.

Chuck Fallaw

Just goes to prove that you can not believe everything that you read. On page 75 of volume 20 of the LGE, it says that the man was born on 10/22/1906 and his wife died on 2/28/1907. It seems quite clear that someone was mixing up a father and his son.

If anyone knows when William Irvin Jumper was born and died, I would greatly appreciate the information

--- Webb Bays Blackman ---

On my Sarah Miller Shealy's (G-G-Grandmother) death certificate from 1925, it lists the undertaker as W.H. Fallaw & Son of Lexington, SC. As far as I can tell they are no longer in existance. Does anyone know if they were bought out by someone else who might still have they're mortuary records?

She was buried in Nazarah (sic) Cemetary which I assume is Nazarath Lutheran Cemetary but I didn't see a marker for her. I'd be interested in knowing if her husband is also buried out there. He died before death certificates were issued by the state. His name is William Isaiah Shealy. He was a Civil War vet and I'm thinking if he's also out there and unmarked and I can get a Veteran's Affairs marker for him. But first I need to figure out where he's buried!

I am looking for information on any Harris family from Lexington District, SC 1800-1830. The family could have been in the area prior to 1800 in Orangeburgh as well.

Only a few households of Harris are on Census records for the above years and I would appreciate anything on them.. even if someone has a name of someone marrying into the Harris line would help.

These Harris families lived very near the Jeffcoats of the area and seemed to have migrated to Pike Co., AL with the Jeffcoat families as well.

Any little tidbiy on anyone with the Harris surname from these dates would be much apreciated!

Thanks in advance.

tracyslater@yahoo.com

SURNAMES LISTED IN THIS MESSAGE (in alphabetical order):
Averett, Cochrell, Cockerel, Cockrell, Fallaw, Gunter, Hadwin, Hallman, Hartley, Heriot, Herron, Hoover, Langford, Leatherwood, Miller, Montgomery, Reed, Reynolds, Rikard, Risinger, Rodgers, Sawyer, Seifert, Shealy, Smith, Spradley, Watson, and Young

(Most of these surnames are associated with the Cockrells.)

I just returned from the Lexington County library in hopes to find the burial place of Lula Fallaw Cockrell (first wife of Griffin Cockrell, father of Crumwell W. Cockrell who married Clara Belle Risinger - my husband's gr-aunt). Unfortunately, I could not find where she is buried. I searched 2 books. One - “Silent Cities, A Tombstone Registry of Old Lexington District, South Carolina, Volume 1” by June Anderson Seay (1984)" and "Lexington Area Cemeteries, Vol.1-4, Lexington Genealogical Association".
Roll Call: Lexington County Surnames I Am Researching

The following are the surnames I am researching in Lexington County. If you see a familiar surname, please let me know! Maybe you can help me, or I can help you! :o)

RISINGER: Leesville, Lexington Co., SC and Red Bank, Lexington, Lexington Co., SC

BLACK: Johann Adam SCHWARTZ aka John Adam BLACK. Daughter Catherine married David RISINGER. David and Catherine are buried in Leesville, SC.

SEAY: Florence Caroline SEAY married Thomas RISINGER, son of David and Catherine. David was in the War of 1812 under Capt. John Barnet SEE and was in the same company as Jesse SEE, John Barnet SEE'S son. I'm wondering if Florence was the child of John or Jesse. She's one of my brick walls.

GUNTER: Polly GUNTER married John Roston RISINGER, son of Thomas and Florence SEAY RISINGER. Polly was the daughter of Joshua GUNTER and Louisa Catherine QUATTLEBAUM. She was the granddaughter of Rivers GUNTER and Priscilla HARTLEY and Matthias QUATTLEBAUM, Jr. and Catherine SHEALY. She was the gr-granddaughter of Joshua GUNTER and Keziah BANKS, (don't know Priscilla Hartley's parents), Matthias QUATTLEBAUM, Sr. and Rachel DERRIN, and (don't know Catherine Shealy's parents). I can go back a little further on the Quattlebaums and Gunters.

ROLAND: Emma Pearle ROLAND married Thomas Joshua RISINGER, son of John Roston RISINGER and Polly GUNTER. Pearle was the daughter of James D. ROLAND and Barbara Ann SHUMPERT, granddaughter of William Henry ROLAND, Sr. and Eleanor Elizabeth SHARPE, and Rev. Daniel Peter SHUMPERT and Eliza WINGARD. She first married Thomas, then to a Mr. SHEALY. Pearle and Thomas are buried at Red Bank United Methodist Church.

I can go back to Germany on the Risinger family and have made some recent discoveries as to the exact name of Fite Risinger, who has been a Risinger mystery to us for years.

If anyone is researching any of the above-mentioned families, I'd sure like to hear from you!

-Dana

Does anyone know what church Rev. Edwin D. Zeigler served at? And what years? He married two of my cousins. (I found this from the marriage license.) They are buried at King Grove Baptist Church -- so maybe he served there. Anyone know?
Thanks in advance.

MISSOURI JEFFCOAT

Seeking information on Missouri Jeffcoat who married Thomas B. Flake (my great-grandfather). I have searched "Seed of Jacob" without results. She apparently married someone by the name of Brown after the death of Thomas as she signed a deed for my grandfather, Thomas Vernon Flake, as Martha M.A. Brown, along with Thomas' siblings. According to her death certificate she is buried at Ebenezer Methodist Church but no marker exists for her and I assume that Thomas B. is buried there also as two of her children are in marked graves there (Ella and Thomas Vernon). Would appreciate any leads as to info on Missouri.

Furtick, migrated from Lexington Co to Florida sometime before 1850 besides other children,he had three boys.Henry Holt Fertic,George Washington Fertic, and John Allen Fertic.Henry Holt Fertic was my G.Grandfather.One of his sons was named George Washington Fertic also,he was my Grandfather born 14 Feb.1885 in Polk Co.Florida.It is said that L.L.Furtick's wife was Elizabeth (mabe Clements).
she was the mother of the boys.I would like any information
that may help me find info further back regarding L.L.Furtick and his family from the Lexington area.It seems like the names change their spelling with each census i run across and is so confusing.

James H. Oswalt / Henrietta Taylor descendants

They are my great great grandparents. I see them living in the Black Creek area of Lexington County on numerous census reports. Their daughter, Maggie Oswalt b. 1882, was my great-grandmother.

I'm not sure if the whole family moved to Aiken County at some point or whether it was just some of their children. Maggie and her sister Irene for sure died in Aiken County. Another sister, Ann married a Windsor, Aiken, SC native. I see that Maggie is living in Aiken County by 1910, yet her father is still in Lexington County thru at least 1920.

I have identified 8 daughters: Maggie, Irene, Mary Ellen, Gertrude, Ann, Melinda, Josphine and Ida. Particularly, I'm seeking descendants of all of these excluding Maggie and Ann (or Annie as she was known). There were no sons.

I'm hoping to find some descendants of the other daughters. Attached are photos of Maggie Oswalt with her husband Manley Stone, Irene Oswalt Bonnett and Annie Oswalt Stone.

Fulmer / Amick connection

Mostly I've posted in the Aiken board before because that's where my direct Fulmer line is. However, in following down another Fulmer leg, I discovered there were a lot that were in Lexington and Newberry County. Most recently, I've been following down the John Jacob Amick, Sr. / Catherine Christine Fulmer line. I'm not sure when the Fulmers first came to Aiken County, but I do see some of John William Uriah Fulmer's children passing away in Aiken County.

For those familiar with the Fulmer / Vollmer / Volmar (and other spellings) line, I descend from Catherine Christine's brother, John William Uriah Fulmer.

Would be interested to fill in some missing information and if anyone has any old photos, I would be thrilled. I'm afraid I have very little in the way of old Fulmer photos. I do have a portrait of John William Uriah Fulmer's grandson and wife - Thomas Derrick Fulmer.

John Wesley Wise

Recently started researching my mother's family - can anyone provide information pertaining to John Wesley WISE, born 1840-42 and died 1920-22. Understand from one of my mom's half sisters that their grandfather had at least 3 wives. Cedecia Corley was one wife (#2 from what I have been told) and the mother of my grandfather, John Asmond WISE. Known children of John Wesley: George Dantzler, John Asmond, Sidney, Balham(sp?), Ison D., Robert Lee, William Tally, David Simpson and a daughter whose name is unknown at this time. I have been told that she was taken to be raised by her maternal grandparents, from Columbia, upon the death of her mother - wife #1 or #3. John Asmond was married twice - 1st to Maggie Senn, then to Hattie Cleo Spires, daughter of John E. SPIRES and Harriett C. SHARPE. I understand that all families lived in, and the areas surrounding, the Edmund-Pelion-Swansea triangle. If there is another descendent working on this family, I would welcome !
the news!
I am trying to find the parents of Jonathan Taylor. I know he was born in 1777 and I think in N.C. He was married to Rachel Clark. He died after 1850 in Lexington County. They had 7 children, Joshua, Adam, Louis P.C., Permelia, Annis, Leah, and James. Rachel was born in 1787 in Lexington and dies in 1857. She was the daughter of Gregory Clark and Lurany Parker both of Sampson Co. N.C. Gregory was the son of Charles and Betty Clark of County Cork, Ireland. I have been told in the past the Jonathan was the son of John N. and Ruth, and that John died in 1815 in Lexington. I have only been able to find 3 sets of John N and Ruth Taylor in NC that would have been there the right time to be his parents and none of them ever left N.C.

I hope you are OK.

In my last response, I provided information off the top of my head and misstated two things. Missouri was referred to as Miss or Aunt Sootie not Sookie. Also they did not attend Mt Olivet Church but St. Jacobs Church two miles to the west of their home. Their house is still there in Spring Hill.

If you would like to exchange information, please contact me or respond here on the Board. I know much about Missouri's Tennessee family, her parents, brothers and sisters, etc.

Take care,

Bruce Johnson

MOUNT AIRY - Following a short and courageous battle with cancer, Mrs. Lubertha M. Kinzer of Mt. Airy, departed this life peacefully on Friday, July 6, 2007, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Robbie DeLapp in Winston-Salem.

Her loving great granddaughter, Tramona Crawford, who cared for her during the extent of her illness; two granddaughters, Treva Anthony and Sandra Crews,; and her five children were at her side.

She was born in Columbia, S.C. to Lucious McGriff and Suzanne McConnell.

She was of the Baptist faith and a member of Waughtown Baptist Church under the pastorate of Reverend J. T. Joyce, where she served as both an usher and the pastor' s aid. In Mt. Airy, she worshipped at Paynetown Pentecostal Holiness Church. When no longer able to make the trip to church, she enjoyed Bible study in her home. Her favorite scripture was Psalm 23 and her favorite song was: "Precious Lord, Take My Hand." She was known for her organizational skills from forming a social club that included young and older members alike in the Paynetown community. A lover of flowers, she enjoyed gardening, quilting and crocheting. At family reunions at her home, it was natural to see little children gathered around her feet as she told them stories, laughed with them and answered their many questions. This devoted and wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend will be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Jasper Frank Kinzer; a son, Frank S. Kinzer; and a brother, Johnnie McConnell.

She leaves to cherish her memory a son, James Alvin (Brenda) Kinzer; four daughters, Robbie DeLapp, Doris Harris of Mt. Airy, Ernestine Dillard and Mildred (Mack W.) Tuttle; a sister, Mrs. Irene Holmes of Camden, N.J.; a daughter-in-law, Dorothy Kinzer of Camden, N.J.; and a host of grand, great-grand, and great-great-grand children, nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, July 10, from the chapel of the Russell Funeral Home with Bishop Tony Carter officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, July 10, at the funeral home. The family wishes to extend their appreciation to the staffs at the Forsyth Medical Center, the Rehabilitation Center, and Hospice for all services rendered to our dear Mother and the family. Online condolences may be made at www.russellfuneralservice.com.
In 1850 census of Edgefield Co I find listed a household with Sarah Sp(r)adly - age 40 as head; Sarah - age 19; Lawson - age 15; Catherine - age 14; John - age 2; Matthias Quattlebaum - age 74 or 76.

I believe this may be the Mother of Benjamin Franklin Spradley. Does anyone know if she was married to a "Washington Spradley" or a "Manning Spradley"? Any help would be appreciated.
I am trying to find information on the Eiffert family in Lexington SC. There is a John H. Eiffert listed in Lexington in 1820. Also it is noted that Eiffert is on eof the surnames from the Saxe-Gotha settlers in Lexington SC.
My 3 great grandfather was James Eiffert born in 1818 in South Carolina. He died in 1911 in Kansas. There is another Jon H. Eiffert born in ~1815 in South Carolina who moved to TN and then onto Indian Territory dying in the teens. Does anyone have any information regarding this families?
Vaerie Reese

Thomas Taylor of Lexington District, SC

The "1907 Census of Confederate Soldiers in Alabama" records show that Thomas Taylor was born in October 1823 in Lexington District, SC. However, the Baldwin County, Alabama Census shows that he was living with Martin Taylor, born 1792 in SC, and in close proximity to the following named Taylors who also came from this same area: John Taylor, b. 1769 and his wife Margaret, b. 1772 in SC; Henry Taylor, b. 1787 SC, Catherine Taylor b. 1802 SC, Hiram Taylor b. SC, Aaron Taylor b. SC and a Simeon Taylor and a Ward Taylor. These people all arrived and lived in close proximity to each other before 1850 and some have proven to be related to each other. Would anyone have information on these Taylors or any suggestions as to how I might be able to access this information?? Particularly the parents of Thomas Taylor b. 1823. Thanks, BWC

Does anyone know where John Gunter Mill Cemetery is? I know it is located near Seivern, Aiken Co., SC. It is also close to Fairview, Lexington Co., SC. I found and old Gunter cemetery in that area, but it is not the correct one. The one I am looking for has Ninetta Gantt Williams, her son (the outlaw) Emanuel Williams, her father Elijah Gantt, and her grandfather Russell Gunter burried there. Any help with this will be gratly appreciated. Thanks.

Crumwell W. Cockrell - Batesburg, SC

Does anyone have this man listed in your research? I have confirmed that he indeed married my husband's gr-aunt, Clara Belle Risinger, daughter of John Roston Risinger and Polly Gunter.

According to the 1900 Lexington Co., SC, Chinquepin census, Crumwell was the son of Griffin Cockrel and Laura ?. He had siblings Eva, Jason, Thomas, Albert and Gorden. According to the 1910 census, he was not living with his parents, but also had siblings Lena, Clay, Lucy, Sidney and Ransom. In 1910, Thomas had married, was listed as a head of household, widower, and was living with his brother Albert C. Cockrell. Gordon was living with his parents. However, Crumwell is not to be found. He married my husband's gr-aunt around 1915 and is listed with her in the 1920 Saluda Co., SC census. I also have a copy of his WWI Draft Registration (dated 6-5-1917) which states that he was born 1-10-1888 in Batesburg, Lexington Co., SC. In the 1930 Lexington Co., Batesburg, SC census, he is listed with his wife, Belle, and children Grace, Margaret and Cromwell, Jr. Cromwell W. Cockrell, Jr. was born 1924 and died 12-18-1949 in Edgefield Co., SC.

Does anyone know this family? I'm looking for all of the children of Crumwell and Belle Risinger Cockrell.

THANKS!
-Dana
I am African American, and seeking information on the following:staunch evangelist Anne Francis Sutton, born 1884 or 1886, daughter of Edward Sutton and Minerva Johnson. Annie married Samuel Green; they had four children together -- Fannie Mae, Rachel, Samuel Jr.and Daniel -- joining his two children from a previous marriage: Rosa, born 1905, and Edna, 1911. The Sutton and Green families lived in Lexington County. I know from the 1920 census that Sam Jr., was born in Bull Swamp Township, in 1919. I would like to have any information on these ancestors on my father Daniel's side. Am also very curious about Edward Sutton and Minerva, his first wife, as well as Samuel Green Sr.'s background, parents and relations. I have no idea when or where Samuel Sr. married Annie. He was born in 1875 or 1876. Minerva's sister, Lucy Johnson, who raised my grandmother Annie, married a Jacob Manigault.

On my mother's side, I'd like to know more about Walker and Snipes connections in the Dorchester County area (perhaps Orangeburg County, prior to 1897). Also, of interest and concern, the Weatherspoons, who eventually settled in southwest Georgia..

Thanks, in advance, for any information you can unearth or share.

I have absolutely no information as to his parents.

Thank You;
John Cook
