I think I've been to Maybinton. If I was actually there, there's not much left to see as I did look hard to find it, it's not inc. into another town, very rural now. It was named after the Maybin family, Benjamin Maybin (1775 - 1850). I understand it was a cotton growing area. Some of my family are from near there. Mr. Pettus Wales Chick (b. 1806 d. 1878) ran a store there & his father Burwell farmed land around there. Mr. Robert Glenn Moorman (b. 1814 d. abt 1878) had a plantation there but moved in to Newberry in 1866. He was state House rep & Senator for Newberry Co. before & after War between the States & raised horses. Pettus & brother Reuben were in business with Moorman in Newberry.
