My name is Francis Matthews and I am looking for information of these families from Union county South Carolina (specifically cities of Santuc, Union, and etc.). I am trying to get specific information of the Family of Jasper and Fowler and any relatives they may have had around 1870-1910. Also I am looking for the relatives of Will and Mary Foot which would include Meadors, Smiths and any other relations. The other names of Jeters, Fowlers, Smith, Worthy, Gist, Kershaw and Lyles appear to intermix several times in Union county and I would like to obtain any information of these and other related families which may give understanding in what appears to be a complicated family tree. Although the family tree is generally African American, there are many relatives who were classified as mulatto. Therefore, I am looking for any possible relations regardless of race.

Hello,
I am attempting to close some gaps in my research involving this branch of the GAUSE/SPIVEY family. I am trying to identify the events, names, places, dates and relationships that shaped their lives. Any help would be appreciated, especially any photos or newspaper articles, occupations, birth, wedding announcements, OBITS. Bibles, service records. Every detail helps. Perhaps you know of someone who shares my interests and could point me in that direction. Please let me know if you can assist me in this research.
Thank you again for your time and attention.
Would love contact with relatives!
Baby Nancy Valisca Smith with the Lord in 41

This is a long shot. In 41 a child died of pneumonia she was a year old. Word is my grandfather buried her in Thompson cemetary off Hwy 65 north of Maple church. Born and Died @ home, no records except in a bible. No marker. Some say the grave site was moved sometime later to the back of the cemetary for a road that was installed. A porcelain angel served as a marker. If there is knowledge of sites moved in this cemetary, please get in touch with me, if you remember the angel her name was Nancy Valisca Smith. We want to put a marker there if it is her spot of rest.

I am searching for anyone that might have information on "Hines" ?
My family story is that there were 3 or 4 sisters that ran away.. however the youngest was too young to travel so she was left behind.
They were some type of endentured servants (native american).

I know they were from Socatees or perhaps the Dimery Settlement.

And they escaped to where they met my grandfather (Riley Lewis) and others in North carolina.

Three of the girls names were: Mary Elizabeth, Jenny and Barbara Hines. From what Im told there parents were named Mary and Obediah or "Obbie".
I searched the message board but I havent found any "Hines"

I appreciate any help that someone might be able to point me in a direction or share with me. Thank You!

I am searching for information to discover more about my ancestors. I have the information back through ggggparents, then it gets a bit more difficult. I very much want to learn more about them, especially any history or folklore. I am just beginning the research and every bit of help is such a gift. I have a great picture of about 50 people on Charles Franklin Spivey's porch from about 1925-1930. I have identified many, but not all. It is like a great detective story to search for clues. Here is the info I have pulled together thus far.

SPIVEY ANCESTORS

1 Ephraim SPIVEY b: ? d: 20 FEB 1806
+ Margaret HARPER b: ABT 1768 d:?
2 Alexander SPIVEY b: 14 MAY 1795 d: 20 OCT 1844
+ Sarah ORMOND b: 16 AUG 1805 d: 4 OCT 1841
3 Ephraim SPIVEY b: 2 JAN 1827 d: 18 NOV 1864
+ Elizabeth C.
Does anyone remember when.....?

Does anyone remember when this happened? I am remembering this from when I was 12, but I believe back in April of 1973 while we were on Easter vacation visiting Myrtle Beach, there was an accident either at the Pavillion Amusement Park or the Old Grand Strand Amusement Park (now Family Kingdom). We just came back from a visit once again to MB and this has sparked old memories partially due to the coming destruction of the Pavillion area.

One of those 2 parks used to have aerial cars at them,; I am thinking it was the Grand Strand one. Our family had gone there one night and just walked under them when the cable broke and aerial cars crashed down on the people immediately behind us. We did not know them and as far as I know they survived. My father was the unnamed bystander on the local news providing immediate first aid to the victims until the medical help arrived.

In the end I am hoping to get a copy of the newspaper article on this, but does anyone remember what I am talking about?

The PARENTS of my relative, John "Jack" Jackson JENKINS may have lived and died in this county. I know very little about their son's life in So. Carolina except that all census lists it as his birth state. I know that he was in Alabama during the Civil War and he fought with the CSA. He was born in 1816. Can anyone help me? Or make suggestions on where I can proceed to in my research?
Cassandra

Adoption Records - Thompson Information
Does anyone know if the adoption records were archived in the
1800 and 1900's? Are they sealed?

I am particulary interested in finding information about my
grandfather, Charles M. Anderson, Jr.'s birth mother. He and his
sister Della were children of Walker Thompson who is buried at
Thompson Cemetery near Maple. My grandfather was adopted by Morgan
O. Anderson and Isadora Alford Anderson. In the 1910 census, my
grandfather is listed as Charlie Thompson in the Morgan O. Anderson
household as nephew, his sister Della Thompson is listed as niece.
In the 1920 census, his name is Anderson and he is listed as son of
Morgan and Isadora. Thus the adoption would have occured between
1910 and 1920. I have heard that my grandfather went to Columbia for
the adoption.

Hugh Walker Thompson was the son of John Rubin Thompson and later was
married to Nellie Lewis, daughter of William Henry Lewis, he was
quite a bit older than she was and she is too young to be my
grandfather's mother. She and Hugh Walker Thompson had one daughter,
named Mary or May.

We cannot find any grave markers at Thompson cemetery or any others
where Hugh Walker Thompson's former wife is buried. And no marriage
record has been found.

If anyone is familiar with the Maple section of Horry County or knows
the daughter who descendents of Walker Thompson and Nellie Lewis, I
would love to learn any information they may have regarding this
missing piece of my family history.

Thanks,
Mary Lou Eddings

I am looking for any information on Joseph Roberts. In 1850 Census it shows him to be abt 70 years old. Living in the same household in Nancy Stevens age 35, Margaret Stevens age 12, Conner Steves age 10, Nancy Stevens age 8 and another Nancy Stevens age 6. I am the gggranddaughter of Conner, who changed his name to Roberts when he joined the confederacy in Florida, Duval county. I have found land records referencing Joseph Roberts along with Absolam Roberts (could be Solomon). Anyone with any information on this family, please contact me at mbailey597@adelphia.net.

I believe that Nancy is the daughter of Joseph and Conner is her son. There is a William Stevens family listed on the 1850 census right before Joseph Roberts which could be a relative of Nancy's Stevens husband.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I have been trying since 1974 to find Edward's parents/grandparents, etc. Needless to say, I haven't been very successful. Have you any information or direction that would help me?

Edward Todd was my grandfather. My Mother's memories were these: Edward Todd's father was killed or died during the Civil War. His mother died shortly thereafter. Edward was "raised" by his grandmother? (or relatives) in Horry County. He and Rosa married (She had a daughter Catherine Duncan) and they had a son (all shown as W on 1880 Horry County Census). In early the 1900s they packed up their 9 children and moved to Broxton, Coffee County, Georgia. He farmed, growing tobacco, among other things. He was also very "interested in politics." I don't know why they chose Coffee County, Ga. or who they traveled with, if anyone. Their home place burned in 1922 and they escaped with only their night clothes. No pictures, records, etc. saved at all.

Edward Todd: born in Hurry County, SC
b1862 m:1857 d1931 buried at Reedy Branch Cemetery, Broxton, GA.
m: Rosaline Duncan : born in Horry County,S.C.

Looking for any info on my ggrand fater, Memory. His wife was Sarah(don't know maiden name). The only thing I have found on him online is the 1880 census of Grean Sea Twp, Horry Co., SC. Memory (b. abt 1859-1864) and his sister Emaline (b. abt 1861) are listed as step children in the family of Edmon and Ellydia Johnson. I maybe be wrong but I am thinking since they are Step children, then Ellydia is their mother but I do not know who she would have been married to before Edmon Johnson.
I am looking for assistance in locating the James A Lay (sometimes spelled leigh) family. He was born, we believe in NC, we don't know when he came to SC. other than childrens names and his appearing again on the 1860 US Census nothing further is known about James.

He married Elizabeth Isabell STANLEY about 1839 in (Horry?), SC, she is called “Tabby” on the 1860 US Census. She was born about 1824 in (Horry?), SC

We believe that they had 11 children with 4 of them being born in Horry (we think) SC

1. Lydia Ann LAY was born about 1839 in (Horry?),
2. Elizabeth LAY was born about 1842 in (Horry?), SC , and died about. 1864 .
3. Malissi LAY was born about 1844 in (Horry?), SC
4. Jesse Hillard LAY HE was born June 2, 1849

We know that they had relocated to Jacksonville, Florida by the time of the 1860 Census and believe that their 5th child Sarah Rebecca may have been born in Jacksonville in 1850.

You now know everything that I know about the Lay/Leigh family of Horry SC -- any additional information would be greatly appreciated.

thanking you in advance

Steve

vandross/vandroff in Loris sc 1929-1940

Hello I posted another message on this board about the vandross family in which I am doing research on. My grandfather James Vandroff who died in 1974 Was born in February 1897 in Georgetown SC. This past July we had a family reunion and one of my cousins put together a booklet. IN it is lists my grandfathers children and when and where they were born.
So now I know that he was married to Mary Brotton Vandroff who died in 1928. they had 2 kids one born in 1924 and the other one born in 1925. Both of them were born in Georgetown SC. After my grandfather(James Vandross) first wife died he married my granfmother Alice Rose Richardson. The first chikd they had together was born in June of 1929 in Loris SC his name was herbert. They had another son born in Loris in 1939. I know the names of all my aunts and uncles i just won' t to take the time to post them now. I just wanted to point out that my grandfather was probably living in Loris SC for arleast 10 years 1929-1939. I was wondering if anyone had any info on any Vandross in that area during that time. Also in the booklet it says that my great grand father Roy Vandross was born in 1847 in Georgetown SC. Thanks in advance for any help Chris

vandroff/vandross in south carolina

Hello I am doing some research on my grandfather on my fathers side. My grandfathers name was James Vandross born February 22, 1897 in georgetown sc and he died February 01, 1974 in Mullins SC. His parents were Lina Hutchinson Vandross and Roy Vandross, that is as far as I have been able to get. I looked through different census reports and the only thing that i have been able to find that might be my grandfather is in the 1930 census which lists a James Vandraugh who is living in Williamsburg County with his wife Alice Rose(his second wife, his first wife died when she was young) my grandmother, his two oldest children and his mother. Any help will be greatfully appreciated Chris Vandroff
