Janet,
I have a copy of the death certificates of your great-grandparents Lydia Jane Lowrimore and William J. Hutson from ancestry.com and also a birth certificate for their son Nethnel 26 Apr 1892 who must be the Shadrick in the 1910 Census. The only census I found them in was 1910 in Columbia, SC. My Lowrimore ancestor is William J. uncle of your gggrandfather Robert W. Lowrimore. Let me know if you need this information.
Alice

Gabriel and Amanda Singleton parent if Pink Singleton

Can anyone help?
My gg-grandmother was Elizabeth and on her Boston, MA marriage certificate it says her name was Elizabeth Singleton and father Pink and mother Rosa. I know this is the right marriage certificate because of the children born of the marriage but I was a little surprised at her maiden name being that I always heard it was Harris, although unable to prove it anywhere. I looked further into "Pink" and found that he was married a couple of times because of being widowed.

He lists his parents as Gabriel and Amanda and his place of birth as being in Bucksville. I was always told that Bessie maiden name was Harris and her father was Jewish and she was from Charleston. They said her father died when she was a child. I have never been able to prove any of that. I found her obituary and it says she was from Conway, marriage certificate says her maiden name was Singleton. DO any of these name mean anything to you?

Elizabeth Singleton (or Harris) born 1875 from Conway or Charleston married to Charles Carter (in Boston) and daughter of
Pink Singleton from Bucksville, SC born Oct 1856 married to Rosa and son of
Gabriel Singleton born 1820 married to Amanda (born 1830)
Please note that I use doss141 now although still have the martin141 just don't use much. My direct email is doss141@yahoo.com and if you can, please reply directly to me by email. I have very interested in your great-grandmother as you say she is sister to my great-grandmother Hattie. Please share information! I do have some info on Sarah Francis Small and Manassas Gerrald. The spelling of the last name for my great-grandmother has been a source of confusion, so I am interested in any proof you have on correct spelling, census records, etc. Maybe this is why I have not been able to find my great-grandmother or when she died and where she is buried after she married George Edward Robinson. PLEASE WRITE ASAP! Will look up my info on Sarah and Manassas to share by email. Looking forward to long conversations with you!

Hi! Are you referring to African-American Hardee's? If so, are you related to the late Mr. Jeff Hardee? He was one of my grandfathers best friends and they belonged to the same church. Also, his daughter (Sally-Lou) and my mom lived in the same neighborhood in NY, so I knew her and her children very well.

If we are talking about the same family, there are three cemetaries you might want to check (Mt. Olive in Loris, Hills Chapel in Nichols and SilverStar in Bayboro). The church he belonged to was Mt. Olive in Loris and I think I've seen his grave there.

I was born in the area and attended many family burials for this cemetary and have walked it often looking at family names. I have never seen the surnames you specify. In addition. Neither is there a list of who is buried there. However, I can tell you that it is an African-American cemetary. However to get there, if you took Hwy 17 from Conway (heading towards Nichols), there's a filling station named Clover?something. If you make a left there and just continue driving for about 3/4 miles it's down on your left. I have not lived in the area for 50 years, but revisit it when I'm down visiting family. Hope this helps, it's all I can tell you.

I believe that the Camp Look Out you're speaking of is the Civil War prison, Point Lookout, which was located on the tip of the peninsula that is St. Mary's County MD.

It was the largest of the Union's POW camps and a number of prisoners from Horry County were incarcerated there, including my ggg grandfather William H. Parker who enlisted with many other men from "Conwayboro" in Capt. T. Pinckney Alston’s Company (Horry Rebels, later Company F), 1st Regiment South Carolina Volunteers, August 7, 1861. One of his muster roll cards says he was captured by the enemy, June 23, 1864 and sent to Point Lookout.

This company was not located in SC during most of the war. They fought mostly in Virginia, but also in MD and PA, in many of the major battles of the war.

If this is the place you're looking for, you can find a lot of information about it on the internet using any search engine.

Sharon

I read your post with some interest. I have been some time attempting to find information on my grandmothers family. Your post sounds like there may be some possible link or you may know someone who would.

My grandmother was born Victoria Edwards, 1907 in Galivants Ferry, Horry County. I know that her mother was Ranza Ann Tompkins and her father was William Thomas Edwards. My grandmohter also had a brother name Rufus(?) and other brothers and sisters. According to my grandmother on her mother's side her grandfather John had fought in the 10th SC Army in the War Between the States. John's wife was Martha A. James.

If there is any connection I would be interested in any information you would be willing to share.

Thank you
LLoyd Smith

Thank you. We've always called that Clover Farm if i remember correctly - i'll have to ask my mother. She was the one born there. And I'll have to look for that cemetery next time we go out there.

Actually being that it is an African American cemetery it might not be able to help me - but i appreciate you telling me where it is. AND if i have time - i might go ahead and take pictures and catalog it - i've been trying to find some of the cemeteries that aren't catalogued and do them. There are quite a few still out there, especially African American ones.

I've always heard that there are 2 Hardee cemeteries in Horry County - and i've found 1 of them - but the other one i am unable to find - so when i hear about a cemetery i am unfamiliar with - i try to find out more information.

thank you very much!
lesta

The Wise Cemetery is also refered to as the Soles or Soules Cemetery and is located on private property on Hwy 19 just south of Hwy 9. Many of the Wise family buried there have only axle parts from reportedly, a Model A Ford marking the gravesites.

Carolina Forest has no real history. I remember when it was just a hunting club. As far back as there has been recorded history in "Carolina Forest" is was pine barrens. A few books from the early part of the 18th and 19th century refer to it as the impassible bay. I would be interested in stories you heard...But I doubt any merit to them. If you are interested in any other areas please feel free to contact me. Cox Ferry would proably be the closest area to there that would have substaintial "history".
