Hope someone can help me. I'm seeking parentage, descendants and birthplace for William Maine, b. ca 1720, who m: 1752 Judith Gignilliat, b. 1724, d. 1789, dau. of Henry Gignilliat and Esther Marion. He at one time owned a plantation in Pr. William Parish, Granville Co., between the Combahee and Pocataligo Rivers. I believe he was the grandfather of my 3x ggrandfather, William Maine, b. 1796 in SC, who later moved to Lowndes Co., GA. I know there was a William Maine(Main) in Charles Town in the 1680s. Is there a link between him and William Maine of Pr. William Parish? Were the Maines Hugenots, like the Gignilliats? I'd appreciate any and all help and/or guidance on this one. It's been a real dead-end for a long, long time.
