Looking for proof of which Joseph Attaway in SC and GA that was father of my William (also known brother David) who went to TN abt 1830 was married to Nicey Draper. Information I have on Joseph is that he was in Rev War at battle of Cowpens and was injured. I need his wife's name to separate the many Josephs located in this area at the time. I'm guessing he had to have been born between 1755 and 1765 to have been in that battle and that he died before 1850 census. I have several possible wives for the many Josephs, i.e. Jane Wilcox, Edith Nations,Goolspring Unknown.

I am researching the Wallace family. I have proofs of them living in Pendleton District in 1820.My ancestor was Wilson Wallace and his wife was Sarah Jones. Research has shown that his property was purchased from Martha Wallace . At this time, I have not located her Maiden name or husband's name. I was wanting to see if James Wallace was married during his time in S.C. before removing from the state. I would appreciate any consideration given to my inquiry. Thank you very much.
sswillen

SC Artisans and Mechanics Search

To lovers of local history:

This 28 year project was created to collect data on individuals who worked in SC between 1750-1866. Of particular interest are artisans who served as a; carpenter, mechanic, stone or brick mason/cutter, plasterer, brick maker, blacksmith, hewer, joiner, staircase builder, or those who built doors, windows, and mantles. As of 2009, over 13,500 persons and companies are listed in the collection. Each of our counties was highly influential and wealthy during the period and has left great histories. I know that there are architectural examples remaining and data of importance that would be useful in documenting artisans from each county and surrounding area. The database collects basic facts; names, dates, locations, birth/death dates, examples of their work, etc. Census data has already been posted but additions/corrections are welcome as are your questions. If you know of someone in your circle that may also have this type of data, please share.

One source of data is church histories that tell who, when and for how much the house of worship was constructed. Just send the information in a written text and we will be sure to credit it appropriately and share as requested. Don't assume anything we need your assistance if all of SC is to be given ample recognition. And remember to provide birth and death dates if they are available.

Respectfully, W.B. Fairey, Administrator
Does anyone have access to this book? I think it comes in 3 volumes. I'm looking for marriages for Charles Miles about 1775 and for his son Isaac Miles to Rossannah Hollenbeck 1799or 1800. Charles also had 14 daughters. I think they were in Newberry county at some time. The daughters marriages would have been in the late 1790s-early 1800s.

Thanks, Sally

I am searching for the Samuel MILES and Thomas MILES families who were on the 1779 census records as living in the Old 96th District. I'm really looking for a son of one of the families named Charles who shows up as a married man in the 1790 census with 10 daughters.

Perhaps someone with access to the wills and probate book would be willing to do a look up for me.

Thanks, Sally

Have you seen the book, "The Johns Connection" by: Helen Sides Dye. She has information on John & Ann Jones that came to SC Pee Dee River area in 1738 from the Welch Tract Baptist church of Delaware. Benjamin Jones and Enoch Jones were the two older boys of this family but their grandfather was David Jones and he had sons named David Jones. David & Esther Morgan Jones arrived in Delaware which was then Pennsylvania in 1710. Look to the Welch of Pennsylvania. Do you have a FTDNA or have a Jones from that line that can do the Y-DNA test? Join the Jones club and the test cost less.

I’m researching 1,200 Mexican War Veterans, specifically those who served in the First Kentucky Cavalry. One is a Private John Thorn who says he was born on 6 Feb 1806 at (and this is where I need help):

Y[?]on__ [it looks lide a backward 3?] district, South Carolina.

At first I thought it read” Jones heistrich,” but another writing of it looked more like Yons district?

Anyone know what district this could be?

Thanks,
Sandy

Sorry, I have nothing on a Giles Martin or a John H. Martin born 1806 in SC. I checked my entire database and find nothing. I will keep this in mind and if I run across anything, I will post it to let you know.
