I have been told that South Carolina didn't have marriage licenses until well after the Civil War. How, then, does one go about finding the marriage records. Three Sibert sisters married prior to 1830 in South Carolina. I have only the last names of the husbands. Rosa to ? Galloway, Rachel to ? Lee, and Susan to ? Crooks. The Sibert family lived in the Hard Labor Creek area where their father John David was the 1st and only pastor of St. George Luthern Church in the Abbeville District. He later helped to found the Tranquil Methodist Church in the same area. I have been able to trace 4 brothers, David, Frederick, John W. and George, but can find no information on the sisters. Any help would be appreciated.
