Thanks for the reply, but yes I am sure it is the correct Fred LaPlante in the 1900 Census. I know the family was in the area in that time frame (from baptisms, etc) and the other data matches up. It is very common for the censuses to not be completely accurate; i.e., years of birth, and sometimes names (or spellings).
I believe the other Fred LaPlante you speak of was of Indian Heritage.
