Chris Satter married Martha on 6/28/1898; the residence of Martha is listed as Aberdeen, South Dakota on this document. His address is listed as Day County, South Dakota. He filed his intent (first papers) in the County of Day, South Dakota. He was born as Kristofer Christensen:
Birth: 05 JUL 1874
Christening: 16 AUG 1874, Aukra, More og Romsdal
Parents: Kristen Kristensen & Elen Knudsdr
Source information: More og Romsdal county, Aukra in Aukra, Parish register (official) nr. 560A04 (1873-1878), Birth and baptism records 1874, page 11.
His full siblings were also all born in Aukra, More og Romsdal as well, siblings:
Sivert Bernhard Kristensen, b 27 Jun 1876
Hans Andreas Kristensen, b 14 Feb 1880
Karen Anna Kristensdatter, b 08 May 1883
Peder Ingvald Kristensen, b 30 Sep 1885
In the 1900 Norway Census his mother, Elen Knutsdatter, is a widow, and his sister with brother Hans are still living at the Saeter domicile, with her. She has remarried and is again widowed with two additional children as follows:
Kristine Nilsdatter born 1890
Magnus Nilsen born 1894
He most likely adopted the Satter name from the domicile name of Saeter, as did at least one other relative, using the spelling of Sather in the Norwegian Census records. Chris and Martha's oldest son, 'Ole Christian' Satter, was placed with a Methodist Minister, the Rev. E. A. Cooke thru the Children's Home Society of Minnesota following his mother's death. The four children of Chris and Martha were placed with the Children's Home Society on the 4th of April, 1908.
'Ruth' Ellen Marie, was returned to her father on July 5th, 1908. Two of her brothers Herman and Paul were adopted and adoption records were located. The families of Ruth and Paul have been re-united. Information found for Herman in Nebraska is being followed up on. But, no information has been located for 'Ole', past his placement with the Rev. E.A. Cooke, Methodist (who historically worked with troubled boys). The lack of records, plus followup with the Rev. Cooke's family, would indicate he was not adopted by the Rev. Cooke, instead he was 'placed' by him.
Martha (Olson) Satter died at the age of 38, due to pulmonary TB on 09/29/07; she was born 02/01/1869; place of birth: Sweden; Father’s name: Ole Olson, also born in Sweden; her residence at the time of death: Buffalo, Minnesota. This information is taken from her death certificate.
Any and all information on Christensen relatives living in the Day County area would be appreciated. The families of Paul and Ruth are still trying to located family of 'Ole Christian' Satter, born on 12/11/1901.
