Arthur Ladwig was my GG Uncle. He was actually born in Albee, Grant County, South Dakota on Jan. 15 1886.
Of this line of the family, the first Ladwig I have found to arrive in the USA was Arthur's father, Johann "Wilhelm" Gottfried Ladwig. He married Wilhelmine Porath in Manchester, Green Lake County, WI on Aug 21 1870. Their marriage is the earilest record I have found of this family in the US.
What is your connection to this family, how did Arthur's name come up?

Greetings!
I would be interested in sharing and exchanging information on these names that lived in Grant County SD.
I have been busy collecting data on the
Porath, Ladwig, Ehlert, Wellnitz names and would like to share any info that I have as well as learn more about these pioneers of Grant County.
My GGG Grandparents (Erdmann Friedrich Porath-Johanne Wilhelmine Caroline Giese) and GG Grandparents (Johann Wilhelm Gottfried Ladwig-Chlarlotte Wilhelmine Caroline Porath) moved near Albee (Vernon Township) in 1880.
My Great Grandparents are: William and Ernestina (Ehlert) Ladwig; Carl and Augusta (Hempel) Wellnitz
Please feel welcomed to email me at
austin@sio.midco.net
Austin Ladwig

Austin,
I found it on FamilySearch.org.
Germany, Pomerania Church Records, 1544-1945
Pommern, Saatzig, Evangelische Kirche Steinhofel, Taufen Heiraten Tote 1798-1874, Image 33 of 404, #7 on the left-hand side.

The 3 daughters have records in Woltersdorf records. Noticed that some of the Poraths were from Noeblin (Steinhofel) so looked there and found Erdmann Friedrich Ferdinand Porath.

Found some Ladwigs, Vogelsang, Wellnitz and Projahns in Woltersdorf, Freienwalde, Pansin, Steinhofel and Schonebeck. Don’t know how or if they are related, but decided to keep track of those surnames since I’ve seen them around Milbank/Revillo while researching the Poraths.
Erdmann Friedrich Ferdinand Porath was born April 15, 1822 to Johann Friedrich Porath (b. ~1787) and Marie Elisabeth Bartel (b. ~1794). Siblings: Friedrich Willhelm (1817-1818), Eva Elenore Dorothea (b. 1818), Johann Friedrich Wilhelm (1821-1821), Wilhelmina Caroline (b. 1832), and Johann David (1835-1837). Parents were married in 1814.

Pretty sure that this is the same Erdmann Friedrich Porath.

I couldn’t find anything regarding the birth of Wilhelmine nor the Porath/Giese marriage. Found the birth records for Albertina, Minnie and Augusta.

Found quite a few Ladwigs and Wellnitzs.

Suzanne

I am looking for the obituray of my 3rd Great Grandmother, Palmyra Beth Davis Stevens. She moved to Blooming Valley, Grant county as a widow circa 1895 and shows up living with her son OP (either Peter or Perry) Stevens in the 1900 census. I believe she died circa 1903 in Blooming Valley Township but I have not been able to find any record.

Palmyra's husband was Alexander Charles Stevens who died in 1882 in Brookins, SD and I belive her parents were James and Anna Davis originally from Caycuaga County, NY moved to Walworth County WI circa 1840 where Palmyra and Alexander were married in 1847.

Thank you for any assistence in locating her obituray.

Archydigger - Morgan

HI Thanks for your response. I am not a relative, but I have researched the Civil War Elk County Rifles of the Pennsylvania Bucktails of which Lafayette Brigham was a soldier. I plan to update this book in the near future and would appreciate any info you have on Lafayette. Like who were his parents, where was he born (June 1827 NY someplace?), his death date, I think he only had one son Lafayette R. , a picture of him or his gravestone would be great, was Hattie his first wife ( large age difference I have), and anything else of interest. I can send you what I have if you would like- easier with another email than thru ancestry.com .

thank much
Bob Nay

I am not related either. But I lived in Watertown, SD for 28 years and had a friend Elmer Kruger, Jr. I haven't seen Elmer for awhile, but saw his son DeLyle in the past year. I knew they came from Twin Brooks area in Grant Co. .....I found an obituary for Elmer's dad, Elmer Sr. It says his father was Martin. I have seen from census that Martin was a son of Fred & Anna(Richter).
More research shows that Fred & Anna lived in Flora Twp, Renville Co, Minn in 1880. Just 2 houses away were Ferenhart(?) Kruger and his family. I would guess that he was a brother of Fred. But I cannot find anyone who I can be sure is that family after that. It may be because there are so many ways that census takers spelled the Kruger name. ..... Going backwards to 1870, I found a Fred Kreeger(or Krayer, depending on which website) in Rush City, Chisago Co, MN. There is a Fred, Sr and Fred(18 yrs old) squeezed in right under him. I can't read other children for sure. Since Ferenhart would have been 22 then, he may have been gone from this family by then(1870). This is only a guess, but something you may want to look into.
Good Luck. Hope this helps a little.
Bill Feller
I did this research without paid subscription to any websites, so you can too.
** I AM NOT RELATED

Does this look like the family in the 1930 census?

Source Citation: Year: 1930; Census Place: Twin Brooks, Grant, South Dakota; Roll: 2223; Page: 194B; Enumeration District: 24

Fred Kruger, 78
Anna Kruger, 75
Mary H Kruger, 51

The census says he immigrated in 1861 so if he came with his family they should be somewhere in the 1870 and 1880 census. Do you know if he went directly to SD or did he live someplace else first?
I am researching Israel B. Record who lived in Milbank, Grant County, SD from around 1880 to 1886. There is a RECORD stone in the Milbank Cemetery, but apparently there is no other information on the stone. According to an Aberdeen Weekly News newspaper article from 30 Apr 1903, Caroline (or Carrie) Record was buried in the Milbank Cemetery "beside her mother and sister". Would like to know death dates of "mother and sister"--their names were Charlotte and Frances. Also, would like to know if Israel B Record is buried there and his date of death. Israel is my 2nd great grandfather's brother. Would also like to know if death certificates or burial permits are available.

Thank-you

Tom Record
Cornwall, VT

After doing a bit of looking online I think that Gustav E Moldenhauer's parents are Gustav and Hulda Moldenhauer.

The 1910 census has them in Albon Tw. Grant County. Gust is age 44 immigrated 1891. Hulda is 43. With them are Gust E. age 20 born Germany, Emil age 5 born SD, "Tilo" age 3 born SD.

In the 1920 census Gus Sr., Hulda are with "Amelia" age 15, and Tilo age 13 in Vernon Grant Co.

In the 1930 census Gust Sr. is with Hulda, Telo age 23.

Hulda Moldenhauer arrived in NY Mar 1892 with Gustav age 2 on the ship Oldenberg. Their destination was South Dakota.

Findagrave shows Gustav E., Lenora and several other Muldenhauer buried in the Milband Cemetery Grant County SD. Earl A.1914-1993 is listed as the son of Gust and Lenora. Darwin is the son of Emil and Erna and includes a complete obit. Norman is the son of Telo and Selma and also includes and obit.

There are a number of trees on Ancestry that agree with what I have listed above.

Gustav Moldenhauer appears to be a suprisingly comman name.

Good luck,
Barbara
