Hi, hoping someone might be able to help me find birth info for Lyle Wood who was born 1918-1919, possibly Lake county, to Albert L Wood and maybe Minnie Anderson. Not certain about the mother's name. Albert and Minnie were married in Lake County on 7-19-1918.

He was raised by his aunt in Kingfisher OK and was listed there in 1920 census. His marriage announcement names his father as A L Wood and his mother, Rosa Rasp. BUT Rosa is his aunt - the one who raised him.

Thanks for any help or suggestions anyone might have.

Charli...Thanks for checking the book. My grandparents were in Wentworth 1923-1933. They sold the farm and moved to Iowa to farm the remainder of their lives. My folks have visited the Wentworth area before they passed, but I haven't. I do have a pottery-type mixing bowl with the date 1883 I believe, stamped on it, an advertising bowl from Zimmerman Store, so my grandmother probably shopped there, when they were in the area. They did not live there in 1883, so I imagine that's when the store was originated.

My grandparents neighbors were Maasdam's (Dutch family). I have a photo of the Maasdam family farming east of Wentworth on some old equipment back in the old days and a photo of the Maasdam kids. They also moved to Iowa in later years. That's the only names I know in the Wentworth area. Thanks again!

August Abraham died 18 March 1894 in Wentworth, Lake, SD. He is buried in Rosehill Cemetery, Wentworth. He and his family were members of the St. Peters Luthern Church, Wentworth. I can find only confirmation records there. He and his family arrived in Wentworth around 1882/1883.

I am hoping an obituary wil give more information about his marriage to Caroline Loeck/Luek/Losch in Villnow, Pomerania, Germany and other information. August was from Grunewald, Pomerania.

Would there be newspapers (perhaps in German) published in this area at this time and where I might find this?

Thanks.
You're welcome. I just remembered that my mom, who grew up 1 1/2 miles from Lake Madison cemetery, talked about some Olson neighbors. Perhaps they were your relatives. Mrs. Olson was one of the neighbor women who helped her feed threshers after her mother died. My mother was only 11 and with her sister, was keeping house for 3 older brothers and her father.

Lake County Historical Society has a book "History of Lake County" where you may find information on your family (we did). Also the Sioux Valley Genealogical Society,Sioux Falls SD, has a lot of information they will share. You can obtain a "Pioneer Certificate" to certify that you are a descendant of someone who lived in Dakota Territory prior to 1889.
We have a copy of the map of Orland Township from the1911 atlas of Lake County. I see two quarter sections with McBain on them and also one eighth section. If you would like a copy of this, I could e-mail it to you. Our Patrick Cosgrove filed on a quarter section some time prior to 1880. His place was not too far from your McBain's. They most likely knew each other.

In the 1870's three McBains - two brothers and a sister, left their parents' home in Nova Scotia and settled in Lake County.

1. MARJORY MCBAIN first married JOHN RANDALL, and had a son WILLIAM in 1879 (family in 1880 census). By the 1900 census Marjory and son were living with her brothers in Orland Township. Her surname at that time was HICKS, so she obviously married a second time. She died 25 September 1909, according to her inscription at Graceland Cemetery, Madison.

2. Her brother WILLIAM A MCBAIN settled in Orland Township. He never married. He died 11 Feb 1922, and was interred at Graceland Cemetery.

3.Her brother SIMON MCBAIN also settled in Orland, didn't marry, and died 3 Feb 1913, interred at Graceland.

I would appreciate their obituaries, or any details anyone can help with (I do have census records). Thanks in advance for any help! Marlene
