I have learned not to take census records as 'fact'. Even the one where my gggrandfather was the enumerator / census taker!

I have found glaring census mistakes in my own family, including a daughter being listed as "wife" to her widowed father, not to mention mixed-up ages, birth places, names and etc. Sometimes things are mangled so badly that it seems probable that a neighbor or a child gave the information!
