I am researching in Miner County, South Dakota. My grandfather (John George JOHNSON) came from Denmark and settled there in 1881. He married Thrine LARSEN in April 1884 and lived in Rosewell or Howard until 1905 when the family moved to Junction City, OR. My grandfather (a farmer and blacksmith) was active in politics and community, serving in the House of Representatives in 1899-1900. We have established many facts about their life in that area from census, letters and postcards. He is in the Ogle "Compendium of Biography" of which we have a copy.
However, in Denmark he has not been located except on the emigration passenger list that states he left there May 1881 by indirect route to New York.

His wife came from Denmark also. I have traced her family back in church records to the early 1800's in the parishes of Nordlunde, Avnede and Ullerslev in Lolland. Her family left Denmark in 1880 leaving one daughter behind.

What we have:

--Letters that are political in nature but personal also.
--Ogle's "Compendium of Local Biographies"
--My grandmother's "Family Minder" listing the family births and deaths in Danish and in her handwriting.
--One certificate of a daughter's christening May 24, 1890 (with names of witnesses and the priest) in Roswell..
--Verified research in SD and in Denmark
--Pictures of family.
--Family Tree.
--Copy of application for homestead land in Miner Co.

What we need:

--Located a Rasmus LARSEN in Vilas SD. We are sure he was there until 1898.
--My great grandmother (JOHNSON) came from Denmark to live with the family when her two children died in Denmark. Another grandmother (LARSEN) lived with Rasmus LARSEN according to my Aunt Anna (deceased). We would like to find some record of them as well as the burial of one daughter (Georgine) in Howard.

We are also researching in Freeborn MN for part of the LARSEN family. One brother Christian, is "missing" in WI or MI.
