Since the SD Gravestones photo project began 5 years ago it has grown tremendously in several counties. Sanborn is one that has been visited by volunteers. So unless fairly recent, almost all gravestones in some cems in the county have been photographed and posted on www.southdakotagravestones.org
. In SD, there are over 205,000 gravestone records, taken form over 155,000 photos. In Sanborn, there are over 2,450 records from over 1,850 photos. So if you have any relatives buried in Sanborn Co, you might be able to see the gravestones on the website.
The overall national project is called Gravestone Photo Project, but is better known by the individual state names, now about 35 strong and growing fast. Last year about this time I believe there were only 23 states in the project.
Spread the good news. Better yet, maybe you could also volunteer to add to the project.
