Hopefully by now you have made some progress in your efforts to help your friend.
If not, a couple of things come to mind. Generally sites like this are for people looking for deceased ancestors, not living relatives. There are many sites online that specialize in looking for living relatives- you should try those. I did a google search for "find living relatives" and there were lots.
You can also try searching online white pages and phone directories for her.
