I have a picture of the Welker House in Redfield. It was actually built and owned by Mary's parents, Jane and Jeremiah Welker. It is a part of the very early history of Redfield. Mary wrote about it in a book called "Prairie Echoes," which was a compilation of early residents" memories that was published in the early 1960"s. I could send you the excerpts if you like.
Bud Bennet was the head of Cub Scouting from 1952 to 1970. He introduced some very important innovations, such as the pinewood derby and Webeloes Scouting. Google "Bud Bennett Orville Cub Scouts" for a lovely article and more info on him.
I know a lot about Verne, as well.
Are you a descendant of Mary Welker Bennet?
