Information Please: SLAUGHTER and DAIL

Researching the SLAUGHTER family as noted in census records: 1830-40-50-60-70 living in Anderson County, Specifically in the vicinty of the Clinton Post Office or an area noted as Cane Creek.
I would be very pleased to know any SLAUGHTER family information regards this line. I am researching my SLAUGHTER FAMILY the Paternal line. I am hoping that this SLAUGHTER family will connect me to the specific SLAUGHTER family line I am seeking.

James M SLAUGHTER and family were neighbors of the DALE/DAIL - Hicks - Farmer families as noted particularly in the 1870 census. Census Place: District 4, Anderson, TN. Page 35. Post office Clinton.

DAIL is my Maternal line.
I decend from this DAIL lineage: Rufus M Dail Estimated Birth Year: abt 1829 Age in 1870: 41 Birthplace: Tennessee Home in 1870: District 4, Anderson, Tennessee Post Office: Clinton Page 34.

My SLAUGHTER & DAIL family connection eventually took root in Arizona after 1900.

Thank you for your time.
Rachel

If you have old photos of the Mitchell family, I would like to get some of them. My 2nd great grandfather Henry Mitchell is the group I am interested in the most. However, I do believe that an Aden Mitchell is Henry's brother. Henry was married to Margaret Kelley. They had children named Mary Elizabeth Mitchell (Davis & Haney), George Mitchell, Sam Mitchell, Ira David Mitchell, Herman Pettibone Mitchell, Frank Mitchell, and Lucy Bell Mitchell (Lingo & Muncier). Pettibone, Sam, Ira, and Frank moved to Campbell county, TN. Henry and Margaret eventually moved to Campbell county where Henry died. Mary & Lucy died in Greene, TN. Sam, Pettibone, and Ira moved to Anderson county where they died.

In the 1860 census, there is a Hall family listed thus:
(Clinton post office)

W C Hall, abt 1825
Elisabeth Hall, abt 1828
Angeline D Hall, abt 1855
Penelope A Hall, abt 1858

I have been researching the Hall family in Anderson County and I cannot seem to figure out how this particular family fits in.

After following some other leads, I find that Elizabeth is Elizabeth Elkins, W C seems to be William Carrol Hall, and this family seems to move to Campbell county around Jacksboro after 1860.

I am wondering if anyone might know who William's parents are.

This is Lucy A ? (b 1821 TN) who was married to Daniel P Hall, they had a son Perry Hall (b 1849). Living in their home were also children named Geoorge Beats (1840), Mary Beats (1842), Sarah A Beats (1843). This according to the Anderson Co 1850 census. I am assuming that the Beats children are either hers from another marriage or hers with her maiden name. If anyone could shed some light on this I would appreciate it. I also noticed that Beats could have alternate spellings.

Just starting to do research on my mother's father's side of the family, and I have little info to start. My grandfather was George Hilton Jones, married to Mary Pickle, and they lived in Oliver Springs. He had a lot of brothers in the area - Uncle Vernon, Uncle T.N. (Tolly Napoleon), Uncle Reigh, and Aunt Mossie who was either married to one of the brothers or was a sister. George Hilton Jones died in the late 80's/early 90's, and I'd really love to track down some information on the family for this side of the family tree.

Seeking ancestors of William Preston Butler, b. 1833

My 3rd-great-grandfather was William Preston Butler, born about 1833 in Tennessee (probably Anderson County). He married Parthena Wright on 29 Mar 1854 in Anderson County, TN. I lose the family after the 1860 census.

There are two William Butlers in the 1850 census in Anderson County. William P. Butler, age 14, is with William M. and Isabella Butler and other children. William Butler, age 6, is next door with a 42 year old Nancy Butler and other children.

Can anyone help me sort out the Butler families? I'd love to do more research on them. I am descended from William through Richard Mack and Isabella Vann (this is where they moved to Scott County), Willie and Linda Belle Jeffers, and my grandparents Harvey Lowe and Birdie Butler.

Thanks,

Karen Lowe
Lafayette, CO

Samuel A(lexander) Tucker, born 1800 in TN

I am looking for any information on Samuel Tucker... I have heard that his middle name was Alexander but have no verification of that... According to census records he was born 1800 in TN... The same person that stated his middle name also said that he was born in Anderson... I looked the other day and thought I had read that Anderson county wasn't established until 1810???

Samuel married Cynthia Chapman... again I have no place or date for this marriage but US and International Marriage Index on ancestry.com says the marriage happened in the state of Illinois. There is no listing of this marriage on the Illinois Marriage Index.

According to the 1810 census, there is a Tucker in Rutherford County. His name is James Tucker. Samuel's first son was James B. Tucker. With reading naming traditions, usually the first child is named after the grandfather. If this is true, this possibly could be the father of Samuel. There is a male listed in the age group that Samuel would be in...

If there is anyone that could shed some light on this family, I would be appreciative.

Thanks for your time and help!

Juls

I am looking for information on Harden or Hardin W. Brown. I believe he was born in La Follette, Campbell County, Tennessee. He was born on 27 May 1920. I submitted to the Office of Vital Records in Nashville but they could not find him. He may have been born in Campbell, Anderson or Union counties. He was married to Mary Lusinda Relford in Georgia on 30 Aug 1941. She was born on 24 Oct 1924 in Union County, TN.
Harden's father may have been William Brown who was born, unknown location, in 1890. Harden's mother was Heatherley or Hatherley or Heathery or Heatherly. Not sure.
I cannot find the connection between Harden and his family and I could really use some help in this matter.
If you are able to help, please send me an email to dibrotc@yahoo.com. I would greatly appreciate any help you could provide in this matter.
Harden is my grandfather; he had passed away in Toledo, OH on 07 Oct 1999. Respectfully.

Tip Hightower was the ventilation furnace operator at the Fraterville Coal Mine, Anderson County Tennessee. Tip Hightower was acquitted of negligence. Was his name Tipton Hightower? If so, his nephew James Hightower was killed in the mine explosion. Tip or Tipton would have been 45yo in 1902. Tip or Tipton Hightower had a brother named John Edward Hightower, John Edward's son was the James
here. There was a Bart Hightower aswell, not connected to my family at this time, however, the Anderson County Hightower's are related to my line. Can anyont tell me if Tip Hightower is in fact Tipton Hightower? How can I find out? hdsquishy@comcast.net
Thank you
Dave Hightower
I am helping my cousin find her Humphrey lines. They start in Anderson County TN in the census of 1840. Nathan Humphries is living in District 1 with wife Elizabeth and they have several children. His son Henly is my cousins decendent. Henly has a son named Nathan Humphreys and Nathan has a son named Harley Humphreys. Harley has a son named Wiley D Humphrey who is living with his grandfather Nathan Humphreys in the 1930 census. I know there has to be others out there looking for this line and I would like to share the info I have found through the census and hope someone can give us some back ground on this Humphrey line.

Thanks!
Tracy Estepp

We may be the leading Kittrell resource out there and we are free to descendants and spouses and helpful to everybody else.

We have a family tree of nearly 35000 (35K) Kittrell descendants and spouses that is totally private and a MyFamily site that is private and free and available to all Kittrell descendants and spouses.

Just post or e-mail if you fit the bill and want to see thousands of bits of Kittrell info.

The area of the future Gates County of North Carolina is the origin in the USA of the largest Kittrell family and Bertie County, NC was the home of one or more of the next generation, and later they moved on through Craven, Pitt, Granville, Carteret, Davidson and other NC counties as land grew to scarce for the number of male heads of household to feel that they could prosper.

After that period of homesteading in various counties, many in some branches moved to other states including many times over Tennessee, with Sumner appearing to be one of the first stops and many times over Maury County and other coumties including listed alphabetically Anderson, Cannon, Coffee, Davidson, DeKalb, Hamilton, Henry Hickman, Jackson, Knox, Lawrence, Lewis, Loudon, Macon, Marshall, Maury, Meigs, Monroe, Montgomery, Morgan, Perry, Rutherford, Shelby, Smith, Sumner, Trousdale, Wayne, White, Williamson, Wilson and Weakley Counties, among many other, later became the home of many Kittrells of one line or another or multiple lines.

Anyone with Kittrell in their lore please write or post or both!

Anyone with Kittrell in any Tennessee document is welcome to write and to share info on an area rich in Kittrells, complicated to delineate from which Kittrell they descend and of which we have a large knowledge. We lose track of some of the female Kittrell lines consistently in every generation and would like to add them back to the family tree.

The name has many spellings through the centuries in public record including as examples only Kittrell, Kittrel, Kitrel, Kitrell, Kitterlin, Kitterill, Kitterell,..., leterally dozens or literally dozens depending how well you spell such things.

We will assist anyone on Kittrell matters (for free of course other than the wealth we get from both of us sharing some of what we know).

And we will be most pleased to find more missing links broken from our tree due to distance and change of generations to those who barely know a whit of their Kittrell kin.

This area of Anderson County may have become part of Scott County when it was formed in 1849. I hope the area isn't under Norris Lake now, but that's possible. Thanks for any help.

Has anyone researching in Anderson County before 1820 ever come across a “Squire” Miller? Squire is used here an honorific, not as a first name. I actually have no idea what his first name might have been. I do know that he performed marriages during the period 1810-1820, so he may have been a lay preacher, or just someone who could “read the words”. Any information greatly appreciated.

You can order them from their web site...WWW.obriensirishcottage.com. I am going out there to check out what else they have . Check it out.
Jim Sweet

Interested in the below family of Joseph Woods who I believe to be the son of Alexander Woods of Carter County, TN. Joseph appears in Knox Co., TN in 1870 and Anderson County in 1880 and 1900. In 1910 Joseph and wife Narcissus are living with daughter Jennie Latham in Campbell Co., TN. Is anyone familiar with this family? Specifically - what happened to sons John H. and Isaac F. I find no trace of them after 1910. Thanks, Craig Woods

Anderson Co., TN – 1880 census has:
Joseph Woods(39), Narcissus(39), Elizabeth(14), Frances(11), Virginia(9), Joseph H.(7), Isaac F.(2)

Anderson Co., TN – 1900 census has:
Joseph Woods(59), Narcissus(59), Elizabth, John H.(27) Isaac F.(21)

Anderson Co., TN – 1910 census has:
John H. Woods(33), Bettie(31), Addie(4)
Disney's, Solomon, Sarah, Rachel, Joseph, Thomas, Mary Thompson, Robert Monday, and James Monday

I am searching for information about the Solomon Disney family, from the 1850 Anderson County, TN, Census. The Census shows Solomon Disney, 48, Sarah Disney, 50, Rachel Disney, 24, Joseph Disney, 14, Thomas Disney, 8, Mary Thompson, 6, Robert Monday, 4, and James Monday, 3 mos. I have some information about Solomon and his wife, Sarah Bray, and also about sons Joseph and Thomas, and their families, but am wondering who Mary Thompson, Robert Monday, and James Monday were, and why they lived with the Solomon Disney family. Were they relatives? If so, who were their parents, and how did they come to live with the Disney family? Joseph Disney married Elizabeth Louisa Taylor Seiber, and they lived in Wheatfield, Sangamon County, IL, in 1880, with their children, Elizabeth, 23, Samuel, 13, Sarah, 9, Delia, 8, John W., 6, Mattie B., 4, and Frank, 1. Thomas Disney lived in Wheatfield, Sangamon County, IL, also, (his surname was shown as Dizney, though), along with his wife, Sarah Jane Gruver, and they are shown as follows in the 1880 census, in IL: Thomas Dizney, 37, Sarah J., 24, George Dizney, 7, Cynthia B. Dizney, 5, and Lulu Dizney, 2. Thomas Disney served in the Civil War, 13th KY Cav, Co H, as did Joshua Disney, b. abt 1836, married Mary Jane 'Polly' Seiber, d. 7 Jul 1885, same unit, enlisted same day, same place, Adair Co, KY as Thomas Disney, and I have to think that Joshua was Thomas's brother, and therefore, Solomon's son, too, but I don't have proof of that. However, Thomas Disney is buried in Riverside Cemetery, Illiopolis, IL, as is a Lucy Saulsbery, and a note on the cemetery site says Lucy is the daughter of Thomas and Sarah Disney. Anyone who has knowledge of any of these things, please let me know, especially if you know who the Monday children were, and the child, Mary Thompson, all of whom lived with Solomon and Sarah Bray Disney in 1850, in Anderson County, TN.

Joshua Disney who married Mary Jane 'Polly' Seiber, dau of Robert Seiber and Winnie Jane Farmer

I am trying to find who the parents of Joshua Disney were. Joshua was born in Anderson County, TN, and married Mary Jane 'Polly' Seiber, daughter of Robert Seiber and Winnie Jane Farmer. Joshua and Polly had a son, Haywood, in TN, followed by daughters, Jane, Mary Ann, both born in KY, and son, Rufus, born in TN, followed by sons William Albert, Howard, and Sanford, all born in IL. The family lived in Marion, IL in the 1880 IL Census, and moved to Sangamon County, IL later where they lived until their deaths. Haywood married a Caroline Luttrell, Jane married John A. Pfeffer, Mary Ann married Anthony Walters, Rufus married Mary Rosetta Henry, William Albert married Lillie May Henry, Howard married Ethel May Clayton, and Sanford's spouse is unknown, if he had one, but he located in the Peoria, IL area. Does anyone know who the parents of this Joshua Disney were? He was born in 1836. There is also a tombstone for a Thomas Disney in an Illiopolis, IL cemetery where some of the family is buried, that shows Thomas as being a Civil War vet, 13 Reg Ky Cav, Co H, d. 1915, and Joshua Disney was also in this very same unit during the Civil War. I am wondering if Joshua and Thomas Disney were brothers? If so, who were their parents? They both joined service at Adair County, KY. Does anyone know?
