Nancy Allen Daniel married William Stone in Halifax County, VA, according to DAR records.

John Daniel (1743-1777), Rev. soldier, was the father of Beverly Daniel, Keeble Daniel, John Daniel Jr. and Nancy Allen Daniel. In addition, his daughter, Sally
Brooks Daniel married Peter Singleton 17 Mar 1794, Halifax Co, VA. When Peter Singleton died about 1835 in Bedford County, TN, leaving Sally Daniel Singleton a childless widow, Singleton's estate went to his next neighbor on the 1830 census, Wiley F. Daniel.

Thanks for your reply. I have looked at William Stone & Mary Randle in the past and ruled out them being his parents. The dates don't fit. I even visited the grave of William Stone in Davis TN. He was a general in the War of 1812.
It's possible there is a connection between your Wiley F. and my Wiley B.
My trip to Bedford Co. has been delayed until this fall but I'm hoping to find some information on Wiley's family.

Although I cannot say whether this information is in any way reliable, it should provide a direction to search... I found information online indicating that Wiley B. Stone was born 25 March 1800 in Washington, Wilkes County, GA, and died in February 1870, in Nacogdoches, TX. That source lists his parents as William Stone, born 1745, in VA, and died 15 March 1853, in Washington, Wilkes County, GA. His mother is shown as Mary Randle. William Stone apparently had two wives, with a Sarah Colbert also listed -- although no dates or children are given for her. Perhaps if you search for those names, you may find some new information.

I am wondering if there is some sort of connection between our two families. My 2x great-grandfather had five younger sisters. One, Mary R. Davis (1823-1900 60 1910), married a man named Wiley F. Stone (1822-1880) in Bedford County, TN, in 1843. They lived in Marshall County, TN. I wonder if he might have been a cousin of your Wiley Stone

Hi I just came across this post;

I am also searching for my wife for the past link of Wiley B Stone & Susan Jane Comb Stone. I have only gone back to 1800.

The closest link to an “area location” that I have found is in “Bedford County, Tennessee, USA” where their son “James F Stone” was born.

If you find anything new in your trip could you please let me know.

Thanks

Susan Jane Comb
3rd great grandmother of wife
Birth: 1805 in Tennessee, USA
Death: 1842 in Texas, USA
Married:

Wiley B.
Almost all of the names you are mentioning in your post can also be found in East Texas Smith, Van Zandt, Upshur and Wood counties. I know the Castleberry family was in Van Zandt. One of those just died here in Smith County about two years ago. The Bell name was in South Texas (De Witt and Gonzales counties) during the Taylor-Sutton feud. When I encountered a man here in SMith County named Bell, he said he was from that family. A large contingency of people from Middle TN settled the De Witt/Green Spanish Grant area of South Texas. Jesse Burnam who married Temperance Nall Baker was one of the original 300 Austin colonists that came to Texas about 1818. It was mostly Indian held territory at the time. A contingency of Cherokee also came between 1800 and 1820 and settled in East Texas. The main entry point into Texas from LA was at Nacogadoches. I am not sure just where the Red River via Indian Territory came into Texas but that seems to be the way your settlers might have come. However, you cannot assume they all came exactly the same trail or the same time. You may be able to find an 1836 census online. There was one. The very eastern and very southern parts of Texas were settled first because the Commanche Indians made the rest of the state too dangerous to tread. The settlers were not safe from the Commanches until about 1880. They usually didn't take prisoners.

Do widen your search. Depending how early they came, search the Texas Character Certificates. The earliest ones who came for land, will be listed there.

Good Luck
ljk1054@suddenlink.net

My maternal grandparents met and lived in Wilbarger County in the early 30's until they migrated to Riverside Co. CA in 1838. Their names were Charles Albert "Abb" Cross and Willie Mae Willis. They both came from huge extended families that were in the area also. My Cross line originated probaby in Sullivan Co. TN then on to Missouri then Cooke Co. TX and over to Wilbarger Co and surnames include Turner/Packwood/Burnett/Hawkins/Gamble/Baker/Bell. The Willis line I believe originated in Alabama and then all across Texas. They were pretty nomadic. Surnames include Merchant/East/Castleberry/Floyd. Do you have a specific name in mind?

Hi, I have a GGG grandfather named Daniel Stephenson married Jemima Buchanan in Bedford county, TN. Daniel was born 1818 and orphaned in North Carolina (according to obit) & Jemima born 1815 in Bedford, TN, daughter of John Samuel Buchanan & Jane C. Edwards. There is a land deed for Henry Pickle pertaining to Buchanans & Daniel Stephenson. They went to Tippah, Mississippi & then Neosho, Newton, Missouri (where Jemima died?). It appears Pickles, Buchanans, Neeleys & Stephenson's migrated together & some intermarried. I'm trying to find info on Daniel's parents & family and also the Buchanan's. Daniel came to Calif about 1857 where he died in Roseville, CA in 1881. Any info you could share would be appreciated.
Thank you,
Tracy Sunseri

I am looking for any information on Thomas (possibly William Thomas) Bell b. btw 1781-1790 in either South Carolina or Kentucky. At some point he settled in the area of Noah’s Fork of the Duck River which was located in what became Rutherford co. TN in 1803, Bedford co. in 1807, and then eventually Coffee Co. TN in 1836.

He is on the 1830 Bedford County census as head of household with 7 males and 7 females. I am trying to connect him to the individuals below and prove that they are all one family unit. I found him on the 1836 Coffee County tax list with no white polls so age matches up. He is listed on the 1840 Coffee County census with 3 males and 4 females. According to Goodspeed’s History of Tennessee, Coffee County Thomas Bell was one of the early settlers of Coffee County’s 3rd district which was originally part of Bedford County. He no longer appears on the 1850 census for Coffee County but there are a number of interesting names enumerated in his former place in District 3.

1.	Family #349 William Nivens and Jane “Jennie” (Bell) Nivens b. 1816 in Tennessee. They married in 1834 and also appear in the 1840 Coffee County census. They owned property on Noah’s Fork near the Thomas Bell estate. The reference I came across stated that some of the land may have been inherited by William’s wife Jane who’s father’s name was Thomas and that William also purchased some of it that her brother John had inherited. There is a John Bell listed on the 1840 Coffee county census that would have been the right age to be one of Thomas Bell’s sons from the 1830 Bedford county census. Jane Bell Nivens also falls into the right age category. William and Jane eventually sold their property and moved their family to Green, Lawrence County, Missouri about 1853. They both died in Missouri but several of their children eventually settled in Alvord, Wise county, Texas.
2.	Family #352 James Baker and Mercy (Bell) Baker b. 1813 in Tennessee. Mercy Bell Baker falls into the right age category to be one of Thomas Bell’s daughters from the 1830 Bedford Co. census. These are my ggg-grandparents. They were married in 1838 and were living in Dekalb county Alabama in 1840. By 1843 they are in Coffee County. They eventually moved to Green, Lawrence county, Missouri around 1853 then on to Alvord, Wise county, Texas.
3.	Family #354 Thomas Bell (also William Thomas) b. 1825 Tennessee and Sarah (Crosslin) Bell. I have seen a lot of conflicting information about date of death for Thomas Bell and who his father was but according to an entry I found in the Coffee County, Tennessee County Court Loose Records he passed away in 1851.
4.	Family #355 James L. Bell b. 1830 Tennessee and Elizabeth Bell b. 1788 Virginia. Both their ages fit to be the youngest child and widow of Thomas Bell from the 1830 Bedford Co. Census. By the 1860 Coffee Co. census there are no longer any Bells living in District 3 so I am unsure what happened to them.
5.	Family #357 Josiah Bell b. 1818 Tennessee and Margaret (Hart) Bell. Josiah and Margaret were married in 1845. Josiah Bell falls into the correct age group to be one of the sons of Thomas Bell on the 1830 Bedford Co. census and possibly living with his brother John on the 1840 Coffee Co. census. Josiah and Margaret eventually moved their family to Green, Lawrence, Missouri around 1853 and then eventually on to Grayson Co. Texas. I also came across a reference to a Hart wagon train from the Bedford/Coffee county area that left for Greene co. Missouri in the fall of 1852 so perhaps this is how they all ended up in Missouri. Greene and Lawrence are neighboring counties in Missouri.

Many of the children of these individuals share names such as William, Thomas, James, John, Jane, and Elizabeth. Mercy Bell Baker named one of her sons David Joshiah as well as naming her youngest son William Lafayette. The Lafayette is shared with James Lafayette Bell, youngest son of the younger Thomas.

As of yet, I have been unable to find any information online regarding wills, deeds, probate records etc that would tie these people together.

Any information on any of these individuals or family lines would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Amber
I am looking for more information on the families listed below. Specifically I would like to know if there are online resources for probate and deed records for Coffee county as well as possibly Bedford county as I am trying to link these individuals together. I found my ggg grandparents James and Mercy Baker on the 1840 census in Dekalb Co. AL and then on the 1850 census in Coffee Co. TN 3rd District living near the 4 Bell men listed below. Mercy’s maiden name was Bell and I feel that Josiah who m. Maragaret Hart at least is a brother. I have located them together in Green, Lawrence Co. MO in 1860 and then in 1880 in neighboring counties in Texas. Mercy named one of her sons David Josiah.

1850 Coffee Co. census 3rd District
#352
Baker, James	41	1809	TN
Mercy (Bell)	36	1814	TN
Elizabeth	10	1840	AL
Andrew 9	1841	AL
Lucinda 7	1843	TN
Mary 5	1845	TN
John 3	1847	TN
Sarah 11/12	1849	TN

#354
Bell, Thomas	25	1825	TN
Sarah 22	1828	TN
William 4	1846	TN
James 0	1850	TN

#355
Bell, James L	20	1830	TN
Elizabeth	62	1788	VA

#357
Bell, Josiah	32	1818	TN
Margaret 31	1819	TN
James 3	1847	TN
Cassandra 1	1849	TN

#382
Bell, David	25	1825	NC?
Milly 24	1826	TN
Nancy 2	1848	TN
Mary 4/12	1850	TN

Their ages for the most part appear to fit in with a Thos. Bell enumerated in 1840 in Coffee Co. and 1830 in Bedford Co. A Thomas Bell is listed as an early settler of Coffee county’s Third District according to Goodspeed’s History of TN, Coffee Co. Any information on this Thos. Bell and his descendents would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Amber
...sometime before 1820 John Lemmons moved to Fountain Springs from Virginia. He purchased land that was granted to Thomas Hopkins. He eventually ended up owning over 500 acres on the Western Border of Warren Co. TN. His farm was known as the "Fountain Spring Place"....he died somewhere between 1827 and 1830. His sons Amos and John M. Lemmons continued operation on the mill that was on his land until the 1850s when they moved to Arkansas....

-this is just a small portion of the article

The Fountain Spring Cemetery is VERY hard to get to, but I'm going next weekend to speak with the lady that wrote the article. John and his wife Elizabeth are one of the few you can still get to and see.If you want photos let me know!!

I do not know. Laben Jones had about 11 children under the age of 16 living in his house in the 1820 census in Bedford Co. TN. There could have been more after 1820 to 1826.
I believe the Bedford Courthouse has burnt down twice since then so there are very few records.
Does Caleb M Jones have a war record? His father may have been listed on the documents or someone may have had to sign for him when he got married. Does he list his mothers name and where she was born. Labon was born in Laurens, SC
Keep me updated if you find out anything. Thanks

A group of Russell researchers are tryin to locate a descendant of Matthew Russell who died ca 1845 in Henry Co. We think he had left Bedford Co. abt. 1834-37 to move to Henry Co. If he is the one from Bedford Co., he had previously lived in Rutherford Co., TN arriving there ca 1810 from Mecklenburg Co., NC. We also think he is the son of David and Jean/Jane White Russell. David died in Mecklenburg in 1802 leaving a will naming Jean/Jane, David, Matthew, Margaret married John Rogers, Mary married Zacheus Wilson, Elizabeth "Betsy" married Robert McCord, Isabella married Robert Mitchell, Martha and Jincey.

Matthew from Henry Co. estate settlement named the following: B. S. Allen [Samuel B. Allen], S.S. Russell, A. W. Russell [Austin Russell], A. W. Russell guardian for 4 legatees, Mariah Russell, C. T. Hughes [Columbus T. Hughes], J. W. Patterson [James W. Patterson m. Jane Russell], R. A. Russell by his attorney D. S. Russell.
The four legatees could be James, Martha, Geraldine P. and Delphy Ann.

Speaking of Martins

My grandmother, Iva Belle (Brown) Reed Hill (1888-1979) used to talk about "Matt" Martin a lot. He was a family friend but I don't know if it was her father's family, the Browns, or the Reed family that was such close friends with Matt Martin and family.

My grandmother was the granddaughter of Robert Alvin "Bob" Brown who was himself a son of Jesse Brown (Bedford County VA and the Sugar Creek area of Bedford County TN). She was raised in the New Hope/Flat Creek communities by her father John William Brown. She married 1st Thomas O. Reed and 2nd George "Boots" Hill. Her mother was Sarah Dessie Parker who was raised by the John C Woosley family after her mother died. Her sister was Ella Josephine Parker who married George Hasty. The Parker family was from Flat Creek.

I believe that the Matt Martin she always spoke of was a descendant of the Rev. War soldier buried in Bedford County, and the Martin family of the Fairfield community.

Considering my grandmother's life span, 1888-1979. would any of you have a clue which "Matt" Martin she may have been friends with?

Also, if you have any comment to make about any of the rest of the "book" I have written here....please do.

Thanks,
Donnie Porter

Our Uncle Billy was married to Emma Crowell and they never had children. He was born in Hickman Co., TN but also lived in Bedford Co., TN where the big murder (my grandfather was supposed to have killed him) happened. After he came back home it appears that everyone up and moved back to Hickman Co. If I can be of further help just let me know. We probably answered this before.
Frances Haynes White

My great grandmother was one of the daughters of Elbert W. Harrison b. 1846 and Lucy Glenn. The other daughters were Ella Harrison Wienke, Lula Harrison Ming, Laura Harrison and Annie Harrison. I have his father listed as Richard P. Harrison b 1817, who married Mary Ann Woodward. They had 5 daughters and a son named William N.Harrison. I am still trying to find out more about this line; stories from growing up lead me to believe that they migrated from Ohio, but I'm not sure when.
