I just posted a reply to a recent post and noticed something that needs to be corrected. (It was noticed not only in the message to which I was replying, but in other messages posted here.)
Some posters are including EVERY surname they are researching in that Subject line. That is not appropriate. ONLY the surnames actually mentioned in the post should go there. Here's the reason.
If someone is researching, for example,
ABERCROMBIE, and a poster puts that surname in his/her Subject line, AND that surname isn't mentioned in the actual post, then, in the future, anyone doing a search at Ancestry/Rootsweb for
ABERCROMBIE will find that post and be misled to go to and read the post. I hope you can see how this would cause confusion to future researchers.
So, please DO NOT put ALL the surnames you are researching in the Subject line; instead, put only those surnames actually discussed in your post.
Thanks,
George
(P.S. To manager of this Board: Please forgive me for maybe usurping your job here, but it just rankles when I see this particular error. The subject has been discussed much recently on the LISTOWNERS-L Mailing List, where it is made clear whch surnames go in the Surname section of a post.)
