I am searching for the family of Nancy Humphrey (b 16 Feb 1821); m 07 Jul 1840 in Carroll Co., TN to Levi Jarrett. They had nine children: Elizabeth Parlee (b 6 May 1841, d 22 Sep 1842), Rebecka Ann (b 22 Oct 1842), John Crockett (b 18 Jul 1844), Nancy Caroline (b 4 Mar 1846, d 21 Feb 1921), William Dudley (b 6 Jul 1850, d 23 Oct 1921), Solomon Lafayette (b 20 Apr 1852, d 5 Jun 1928), Enoch Humphrey (b 16 Sep 1854, 27 Aug 1928), Joseph Reigny (b 21 Dec 1859), and George Wesley (b ca 1862). This information came from the Nancy's Bible, which belongs to one of descendants of William Dudley Jarrett. Nancy died before 1877, as Levi married 21 May 1877 in Carroll Co., TN to Elizabeth "Betty" Goodrum. I will be glad to share information.

Direction to Burris Cemetery

Begin in the middle of Green Forest (road 103 and hwy 62). Head west on hwy 62 (West Main) for approximately two miles to Carroll607.
It is about 3 miles, with several curves, to get to the private drive that would be the only access to the cemetery. Heading due north on 607 the first lest curve is only about 30 degrees but the next left is 60 degrees (heading due west at this point), next is three 90 degree curves such that you are now heading due North again. Just before the next long 90 degree curve is the private drive on the right. Looking at the maps, I am unable to say whether there is a gate on the drive or not but the house is on the left of this drive several hundred yards down. The cemetery, according to the USGS map, is located out past the chicken barns and in the far upper corner of the same field as the barns. I was able to note on MapQuest where the cemetery should be but no head stones were visible even though the whole area is quite clear. I have a copy of the USGS map with the cemetery showing in section 25, just below Braswell Springs (also in section 25). BTW, the old railroad grade runs between the house and cemeterry as well.

BB

The only Massey from Carroll County with "Jefferson" in his name that I know of is David Jefferson Massey, son of Nathan Massey and Mary (Brown) Massey. He died during the War Between the States in 1864 (CSA). He incidentally had a brother named Thomas, who also died in the war. As far as I can tell, David was not married. I notice that you are interested in the surname Perry as well. Thomas E. Massey married a Perry. I would have to check my information to see who his predecessors were. I have a good deal of Massey information. I can probably help you if you give me an idea when the man you are researching lived.
I am descended from Nathan Massey's brother Thomas.

I have heard how Hosea Preslar Park [buried in Blackwell Cemetery in Blackwell, OK..] was a Union sympathiser, that hid out and helped Union soldiers when he could. He is buried in same cemtery as my grandfather, Dorsey Monroe Park.

I would love to know how I can get a picture of the headstones at park Cemtery since several of the graves are of direct ancestors of mine [Joshua N Park and his wife [my ggg grandparents], John Newton Park [my gg-grandfather].

If there is a book in print about that small cemetery, I would love to find a copy. I have been to the grave of Hosea Prelar park in Blackwell [my Great-grandfather]. Besides my grandfather. a few other of Hosea's children [great-aunts] are also buried there.

I live in California and not able to get back thrre myself.

I also read somewhere that my gggrandfather, John Newton Park was a postmaster in that area [Hollow Rock?] at the beginning of the 20th century.

I fear this small cemetery is on private land...likely in a state of disrepair.

I am also interested in any information on these Parks and Palmers.

Sincerely,
Edward A.
I am looking for a Nancy (Nannie) and her sister Lecy Moore from Carroll Co TN. They were born in early 1800's. Nannie married Jim Boswell. Jim died in 1900 and Nannie in 1908 and Lecy took care of the (7) children after their death. Don't know if Lecy ever married or not. She was 34? in 1920. Also in 1930 she is still listed as Moore. Does anyone have these Moore's in their family? Would appreciate any help. Thanks, Pat

Thank you for replying. My g-grandmother's name was Matilda Alice Yates. She married Charles W. Carroll on 21 Dec 1879 in Hawkins, TN. We believe she was born about 1861 in Hawkins, TN and died around 1928 in Surgoinsville, Hawkins, TN. We believe her parents were from Virginia -- maybe Scott or Lee counties -- not sure! We do not have any additional information on her parents. Her sister's name was Margaret "Maggie" Elizabeth born on 22 Sep 1891 and died on 27 Nov 1987 in Hawkins, TN. She married Harry Clinton Armstrong on 4 Oct 1910 in Hawkins, TN. Any help will be most appreciated.

Thank you,

Brenda

Miscellaneous information connected to Parks.

You most likely already know that Hosea Preslar was a Henderson County Methodist preacher who hid out during the Civil War to keep from being conscripted into the Confederate Army. He opposed the war on the grounds that division was unnecessary as long as religious freedom existed. He wrote a book called "Thoughts on Divine Providence or a Sketch of God's Care Over and Dealings with his People together with a concise view of the causes of the late war in the US (printed by the author, 1867).

The copy of Park Cemetery I have says it is located about 2 miles south of Bruceton, just off Cotton Creek Road in an area known earlier as Park's Community.

I seeking information on a Robert Blackburn and family, that married a Joanna Melton in Carroll Co. Tn, on 12 Jan 1886.

The 1900 Dist. 22, Carroll Co. Census, gave this information: Joanna Gill, age 30; Son: C. R. Blackburn, age 16; Daughter: Lillie D. Blackburn, age 4; Daughter: Willie T. Blackburn, age 8/12. The state of birth for the father of C. R. Blackburn and Lillie D. Blackburn is stated as IL. Yet the state of birth for the youngest child's father, is stated as TN. Joanna is listed as married, but no husband is present.

Joanna remarried on 18 May 1899, to a James R. Gill in Weakley Co. TN. The youngest child in the 1900 Census, may be the child of J. R. Gill.

If anyone has information on any of these names, please let me know.

In the 1910 Dyer Co. TN Census, Lillie D. Blackburn is listed in the household of her uncle, Robert C. Marsh. I have not found any connections of the other two Children since the 1900 census.

Thanks

He married Calline L. Couch and they had four child William A., Cora, Addie and Elbert Milton. E.M. is my connection. His daughter my Grandmother married C.C. Yarbrough.
In the 1840 Weakley Tn census, Z.H. harris shows up, and right above his name is possibly his father, Jesse Harris, age 70-80.
In 1820 found a Zephaniah Harris in Humphries, TN

Nothing being found about Martha Jane as of yet.

I did notice on the LDS site that there was a Zephaniah Harris who married a Jude Kidd. This Zephaniah was also born in 1810 showing Blount, TN.

But this may be Zephanaia jr... since he married in 1864

sorry... no family trees, nothing else linking to your Zephaniah harris so far.

I am looking for any information on Leander Green and/or his mother Cynthia B. Green. Leander is my gggggrandfather. They moved to Carroll County, TN from Giles County, TN ca. 1840. I know that Cynthia was born ca. 1807 in KY. but have no information about her or Leander's father (name?). Any info would be greatly appreciated. This has been a brickwall for several members of the family that have been researching this. Leander married Martha Covington and their son Albert is my ggggrandfather.

I am looking for the family of Cynthia B. Green and her son Leander W. Green (my grandather 4 or 5 generations back). I know that Cynthia was born in Ky. about 1807 and that she sold a parcel of land in Hawkins Co. TN prior to moving to Carroll Co. , TN. There has not been mention of who her husband was. All of the census that I have looked show Cynthia's name on the 1840 census as head of household but not on the 1830 census. I am guessing that her husband died between 1830 and 1840. I can not trace anything back further than this. Can you help? double_k_ranch1@yahoo.com is my email. I would really appreciate any help that you can give me on this as everyone in my family that I have talked to is as stumped as I am. Thanks again.

Most of the book is a very long spreadsheet. I don't find any Peacock listed in the "claimant" or "assignee" fields. There are no Ellis entries as "claimant" but three Ellis entries -- James Ellis, Robert Ellis and Underhill Ellis as "assignees." However, no names seem to match the ones you list.

There is a wonderful website called FindaGrave.com. There are volunteers in EVERY community that specifically volunteer to take photos of headstones for people. Almost all cemeteries are listed and some already have photos attached. I volunteer in Henry County, TN.
There are links for photo requests.
Good luck in your search.

I saw your post on RootsWeb. Tried the email address, but it didn't work.

I am the granddaughter of Vernell Anders of Lavinia, TN. She passed a few weeks ago. You can find her obituary on the internet.

If you read the obituary, you'll see that Anders is her married name and her mom and dad were Henry and Laura Strayhorn. I would love to learn more about you and the rest of my family, if you have information. I recognize the name Hutch. There are still people by the name of Hutch who live near my mom in Carroll County. I'm not sure if those Hutches are from the strand you mentioned in your post, but I don't mind driving up there and asking some questions to know for sure.
Now that I think about it, my friend from high school told me a few weeks ago that her dad, whose last name was Hutch was of Native American descent. About 20 years ago, my grandmother told me I was related to her. Wow! I'm going to get in touch with her.

I do believe my great grandmother died in a tornado. I don't know any earlier history, though.

Anybody know anything about these people?

SWilliams, R U still looking for information on William Haywood Marshall born abt 1823 in Alabama. Wm H is my ggg grandfather. Through his son James Monroe. How r u related? Poplar Bluff, Butler, Mo has his obituary. It states that he was in the civil war in Ark. I show that Mary & Virginia B "Jennie" were born before Wm H Sr marriage to Nancy Carver in Nov 1850. We think their mother was Eliza J Sampson Mar. 1844 in Carroll Co. She was from Charleston,SC. Nancy Carver is the daughter of James & Ann (Goodman) Carver. If you go back a couple of pages on the 1850 census in Carroll Co, TN for Nancy & Ann Carver. (her father died that yr.) u will find a John & Nancy Marshall with children all born in Alabama. This maybe his father.
If u have other info I would appreciate if you could share. My aunt & I keep looking. She has alot of newspaper articles from Poplar Bluff that she is sending me. They are on the whole family.
