Our 2013 Reunion is in PERSON COUNTY! We'll dedicate a Monument to our earliest-known NC Rimmers, who also came to Decatur County! RIMMER kin will have "EXPLORING PERSON COUNTY" events that weekend July 26-28. We'll visit old homeplaces, churches, cemeteries, and such, most around Hurdle Mills. Roxboro INNKEEPER has "reunion rates." Inquire. A caterer for Saturday's big lunch at Wheelers will serve Carolina B-B-Q and chicken, lots of vegs.

MEMORIAL UPDATE: We will choose our stonemason and wrap up fundraising soon. A few hundred more will reach our $3500 goal! All moneys mailed to cousin Jane - checks payable "Rimmer Family Reunion."
Jane R. Cadwallader, Treasurer
Rimmer Reunion
2039 Travis Road
Conover, NC 28613-9163

THANKS to dozens of you for remembering our ancestors this way! Our Monument will honor the 23 (including 12 spouses of Rimmers) in our first two certain-known generations. It will be our USA "Rimmer Runestone," detailing roughly 1750s - 1850s. It will have about 175 facts engraved. Dedication on Sat., July 27 at Wheelers Primitive Baptist cemetery. INQUIRE for full details as they develop.

Sharlet, my name is Sherry Lewis Lineberry, and I was looking through you genealogy of Descendants of John Young. My mother is Irene Tillman Lewis daughter of Jesse Tillman & Mallie Jane (Sallie) Patterson. I noticed that you had my mother dead, but she is still alive & lives with me & my family. I also noticed that you had Aunt Pauline death in 1983, this is also wrong, she died in 2012. I thought you might want to correct this info.

Sherry

Maggie Petty (mayo, skinner, sweeney) moved to Mississippi (Neshoba) I believe, and begot Mica. Mica married Joe Joyner, and they had numerous children. I am their great great granddaughter. Maggie, Mica, Naomi, Micah, Joi, Lindsay (me). I am looking for Maggies background. If this is the same one, I believe it is. She was born circa 1935-1937 in Decatur Tn. and then migrated off to Mississippi.
The fairy tale surrounding her disappearance was, according to my great grandmother, due to the fact that there were 2 women helping her and ended up wanting to keep Maggie. I would like as much info as you have on her, to be sure. Thanks :)

Smith	47	(1803) N. A. McMacken 1 (1849) Tennessee

I believe I have traced the Thomas Family to St. Francis County Arkansas where two more daughters were born

Angeline Smith born 1851
Amanda J Smith born 1855

Jackson has apparently married to a lady named Sarah by this time for his lives next door to Thomas in the 1860 St. Francis County Arkansas Census.

Questions

1. Are John and Thomas brothers?
2. Do they have any other siblings?
3. Who are their parents?
4. Is anyone a direct male descendant of them?
5.

Thank you for the clarification of the name, and that does help. However, after posting this back in 2009, I had found more information that indicates that E.M.C. (b. 1925) was the s/o James "Jim" Madison Renfroe and Girthy Wood, and thus a younger brother to Chester.

In the 1930 Henderson Co., TN census, it shows him as "Emisie", age 4, as a son of Jim and Girthy. Chester is also shown in the household as a son, age 23, and had not yet married.

In 1940, I see that 14 yr old "E.M.C." is still living with James and Girthy, shown as a son, along with Lester, Audie, Jessie, and Olee, who were still at home.

Chester had married (1931) to Callie Leilar Wood/Woods, and they already had 4 children.......none named E.M.C.

I'd love to compare more information with you on these Renfroe lines. We appear to be distant cousins. I descend from John Henneger Renfroe (b. 1843), who would have been a brother to your ancestor, Thomas J. Renfroe (b. 1854). Please feel free to contact me directly at: plabrot@swbell.net

I'm always happy to find a new 'cousin', and would be glad to exchange info with you. I'm particularly interested in confirming the names of Chester and Leliar's children and grandchildren. BTW - Which one are you descended from?

Pat LaBrot

I can only tell you that Quinn, Gullege or Gulledge and Taylor are all family names from my past. I am trying to connect the dots and pieces. It's a small area around Parsons, Decatur County and Brodies landing. I know that somehow we are all connected or related. Gullege was Eliza my great grandmother. Their family owned Maxwells department store after she Married a Maxwell. There was also a Dr. Maxwell in that family. My grandmother, her daughter, was lessie Maxwell until she married a Cherokee farmer named James Quinn. This is the part that puzzles me. Why are there so many James Quinns there?

I am looking for any information regarding Taylors or Quinn that were living in or near Parons Tennessee during the last 100 years. It seems there are so many families with that name and they have all intermarried. It's confusing. At any rate, they are my family. I am wondering what happened to my grandpas parents. He was James Quinn, a Cherokee and farmer who married my grandmother, Lessie Maxwell. Her mother was Eliza Gulledge-Maxwell. Some of their siblins, cousins or children married Taylors. Thank You.

I think where Uncle Cleve throws everyone for a loop is where he stopped going by his birth name of Grover Cleveland Allen and started going by William Cleve Allen along about 1930. I don't have the census records in front of me, but he is listed in the earlier censuses as Grover C. Allen, either with Andrew Hubbard or with his parents Richard "Dick P." Allen and Amanda Tracy Gibson Allen. Cleve was my father's half-brother. -Jerry Kells Allen, jkells@bellsouth.net

Hello. I have the following info on the Greene Co. Small family.
John Knight Small b: abt 1736 in Perquimans Co., NC or Nansemond Co. VA Death Unknown Married Unk
Church MAY 1737 Received into membership at Core Sound MM, Carteret Co., NC on letter from Joseph Newby
Children: 1. Knight (the First)Small b: Abt 1770 in or of Guilford Co., North Carolina; TO GREENE CO., TN; m. Pheby Worley 9 Dec 1790 in Guilford Co., North Carolina
Children: girls and 3. Knight (II)Small b: 1799 in TN, 4. Benjamin Small b: 1805 in or Of Greene Co., TN, 5. Daniel Small b: 1800 in TN. I understand that FamilyTreeDNA testing links that family to the Quaker John Small and wife Alce Hollowell of Virginia, late 1600s.
My Daniel SMALL was b. about 1772 in Virginia, thought to have come to Davidson Co, TN with the Donelson/Hutchings group in 1780 and there Daniel married Mary Hutchings in Nov 27 1797. Eventually they went to Pleasant Exchange, Henderson Co., TN and had a large family. We cannot locate who Daniel's father is, but DNA testing on a living male direct descendant shows that he is connected to this same line of SMALLs as the Greene Co family within about 8 -10 generations with 37 exact markers! There are 3 known lines that cannot connect with the most recent common ancestor (MRCA), but have close, close DNA ties.. If any male descendant of this SMALL line is interested, I urge you to contact FamilyTreeDNA.com and do this test and join the SMALL Surname Project. Until we get a larger pool of candidates, we may never be able to break down this brick wall. And if anyone has done research and knows of possible fathers of my Daniel, please holler! We suspect a Matthew, but no documentation. Help and thanks!
Meli in TX
If you'll send me your e-mail addy, I'll send you 5 pages of what I found or the info below should get you started. I think you can find your Joe in 1930 Decaturville, Decatur, TN with W. C. ALLEN and in 1920 with Cleveland ALLEN in Parsons, Decatur, TN. There are 4 trees on Ancestry with info on this family (listed as William Grover Cleve ALLEN, Grover Cleveland ALLEN, William Cleveland ALLEN - it's easier to search on Buford ALLEN b 1908 & Bertha McCLENEHEN) but the Joe is listed as "private" since they don't have a death date for him. These trees have pictures of Buford "Ted" ALLEN.

You gave a death date in Jacksonville of 1985 but I found a guy who looks good but with a death date of 1975

Florida Death Index, 1877-1998 about Joe L Allen
Name:	Joe L Allen
Death Date:	12 Aug 1975
County of Death:	Duval
State of Death:	Florida
Age at Death:	55
Race:	White
Birth Date:	21 Aug 1919

The 1944 enlistment record for a Joe ALLEN has him as married so I found the following marriage record which might be him

Florida Marriage Collection, 1822-1875 and 1927-2001

Joe Allen and Corine WATKINS married in 1943 Duval Co., FL
Let me know if you want the other info.
Good luck in your search

Maureen White Pierce
I've been searching for the family of my grandfather, Joe L. Allen, died 1985 in Jax., fl. The only family I ever met of his was his half brother, Uncle "Ted" Allen, Gainesville, fl. I believe Uncle Ted is in fact a Buford "Ted" Allen. I'm not 100% sure, but I believe Joe and Ted were the sons of Wm. Cleve Allen. I know they had a brother Frank, and a couple sisters. Any info you might have would be greatly appreciated. I know they were born in Tn. Joe in 1919? And "Ted" in 1908?

Wow, this thread is old. But I thought I'd add ya an update anyway. This is what my mother told to me.

Her name is Linda Lou. Her birth parents were Jesse Dean Mathenia and Sonia Lyttle Smith. They were married in Cottage Grove, Oregon and she was born in Everett, Washington. She was adopted by another family when she was 5.

Thank you very, very much. I really appreciate you sending the link for the Red Walnut Church Cemetery. I know that the child was buried there as I have two notarized Affidavits stating that he/she was buried there.
The famil was very poor so I am sure that the grave is not marked. The baby didn't live very long, but I am related through the Williamson's to the Newman's who are buried there, so that makes me think that the child is buried there and that there is just no record other than the Affidavits I have.
Thank you so much!
Charlotte McClain Christensen

There are no Williamson listed here.. There isn't anyone buried there in 1883. There are a lot of unmarked graves.
Here is the complete list up to 2003..
http://www.tngennet.org/records/decatur/cemeteries/redwal.ht...

David Donahue walked this cemetery about 3 times. If the grave had been there he would have found it.

Christine Walters
Genealogy Trails - Decatur Co TN
http://genealogytrails.com/tenn/decatur/

I don't know if it is still there or not.
I have a family member who died and was buried in the graveyard of this church and am hoping to find more information.
Hello-- Thank you very much for posting this story! I am one of the great-granddaughters of John Wesley & Martha Jane (McClure) Tuten originally from the Decaturville area. I have recently gotten back into researching the family history when I ran across your posting. Very interesting reading, thanks again! --Robina (Tuten/McClure/Buchanan) Scanio Williams--
St Charles County, MO

From Tennessee, Death Records, 1908-1959 index. The death cert itself is available on line and may have more information.
Name: Rice Pierce Griggs
Gender: Male
Birth Date: 11 Feb 1888 Birth Place: Gibson Co, Tenn
Age: 63
Death Date: 19 Aug 1951 Death Place: Gibson, Tennessee
Father's Name: John Griggs
Mother's name: Nannie Katherine Woods

From the cert itself, married, died in Civil District 11. Lived in "rural" for "many yrs". Farmer, not in military service. Born Gibson Co., TN. died on Coronary Thrombosis due to Cardio Vascula Renal Disease. buried 21 Aug 1951 at Griers Chapel in Gibson Co., TN. Funeral Director Holmes Bros., Trenton, TN

My connection to GRIGGS is tenuous. It's possible that Jacob F. GRIGGS, father of Jones James GRIGGS (1847-1893) possibly married into my GILL family.
