I've recently identified John Bartholomew Smith (b abt 1763 Brunswick Co VA d aft 1850 Dickson Co TN) and his wife Dolly Everett Smith (b abt 1777/1783 d aft 1860 Dickson Co TN) as my 4G grandparents. Since they were married March 12 1803 in Dickson County, were listed on 1820 and 1850 Dickson County slave schedules, and appeared in the 1850 Dickson County census, it appears they were fixtures in the county during the first half of the 19th century. Does anyone have any information on them? Their son John is my connection. Her nephew, Joel Everett, is also listed on the 1850 slave census. I'm interested in whether the slaves were from a single family (ranging in age from 70 to 2, including blacks and mulattos) or whether any of the whites fathered any of the mulattos. Did they stay together? Did they take the Smith name after emancipation, and stay in the Dickson area? Any leads are appreciated. Thanks!
