I am looking for a marriage record for a Martha Emeline(M.E.) Mitchell and a Childers/Childres. Do not know his first name. It would have been in 1870's Martha was still in Franklin Co Estill Spring in 1870 so it was after that date. It took place in one of the Countries of Middle TN. I would think on the Chattanooga side of M.Eagle mountain. Martha had been married in Franklin Co Tn to a Daniel W. Mitchell. She was Martha Emeline Banks before marrying. If anyone in the Tn Area could help me I would appreciate it so very much. Martha was in Dekalb Co AL in 1880 census. Mr Childers was not listed there.
He was Charles E Way and wife Eliza Jane and children. Can anyone look this family up and let me know what sort of info and/or pictures are there for them? I would love to purchase a copy if there is a good bit of info or pictures. I am sure it would be interesting reading either way.
Seeking additional information on the following Confederate soldier who lived in Grundy County, TN:

Thomas F. Carrick was born in 1845. He was the son of James and America (West) Carrick. Thomas Carrick was married and had a grown son (not named) that was mentioned in other correspondence dated in 1905. Thomas also mentioned that he had bought a house in Tracy City, TN.

Thomas filed an Application for a Confederate Pension on 8 January 1908. At that date he was living in Tracy City, Grundy County, Tennessee. It is believed he died in Grundy County .
A letter in his pension file was a request dated July 1933, from Mrs. J.A. Goforth, of Tracy City, TN, when she asked for the number of Thomas F. Carrick's pension. The Pension Board's answer was dated July 19, 1933. The closing statement was "If this office can be of further service to you regarding one who was a friend of mine, please advise me." Apparently she needed this information to obtain a Government headstone to mark the grave of Thomas F. Carrick. A formal application for a Confederate Veteran's gravestone was filed by Mrs. M.F. Jackson, Secretary, General Kirby Smith Chapter, United Daughter's of the Confederacy., Swanee,? Tennessee.
Any additional info on this family member would be appreciated.

They are from Ballard Co., KY and their first child, my mother, was born there in 1912. There is no record of their marriage in Ballard Co., therefore they must have gone elsewhere to marry. If there is anyone that can check records for Grundy Co. TN, the year span 1912 to 1916 I would be most appreciative. Thank you
My notes also reference it is near Collins River area, or maybe Beersheba (Bersheba?) Springs?

I pulled up some info on the Internet about "Old Philadelphia" Cemetery located on Vervilla Rd in that area, but I'm not sure if this is the same one. I would appreciate anyone's help! Thank you. :-)

William Parker Wives

I am looking for information on the wives of William "Bill" R. PARKER (b) Mar 18, 1861 (d) Oct 30, 1936, and is buried in Hillsboro. William was the son of Ewell & Elizabeth (Lemmons) PARKER.

William’s first wife was Millie DISQUE (b) May 15, 1860 (d) Apr 7, 1912, and their son was Jacob Ewell PARKER. William and Millie married Jan 9, 1879. After divorcing William in 1881, she married John CARLISLE. I am looking for the county/state where Millie was born and died and the location where she was buried.

William’s second wife was Elizabeth ESPY. Their marriage information shows William born in Coffee Co, and Elizabeth born in Cannon Co. They were married in Coffee County on Jun 22, 1882. Elizabeth divorced William May 1888. They had no children that I am aware of. I need all information possible on Elizabeth.

I have found an Elizabeth ESPY who divorced Thomas ESPY in 1880. It appears these two are probably Charles Thomas ESPY and Elizabeth FRAIZER. I’m trying to find out if this is the same Elizabeth that married William???

William’s third wife was Virginia BOULDIN from Tracy City, TN (b) Mar 2, 1853 (d) Oct 25, 1921 and is buried in Hillsboro. I’m not sure when or where they married. They had a girl who died at birth and a son, William Forrest PARKER. I have most of the information on Forrest’s family. I believe William and Virginia lived in Grundy Co. for a time.

William’s fourth wife was Minnie HARMON. They married on Jun 4, 1924, in Coffee Co. They had a child that died at birth and a son, William Thomas PARKER.

If anyone can shed any information on any of these families, I would greatly appreciate your help!

Thank you!

Gayle Ragland
They are from Ballard Co., KY and their first child, my mother, was born there in 1912. There is no record of their marriage in Ballard Co., therefore they must have gone elsewhere to marry. If there is anyone that can check records for Grundy Co.TN, the year span 1912 to 1916 I would be most appreciative. Thank you

Hello all,

Has anyone had any recent experience in working with the Grundy county courthouse to obtain probate info? I was looking at the book "Grundy county, Tennessee Wills and Estates 1844-1900" and noticed an entry for John Gross in the loose estate papers. I am trying to prove that Andrew Gross is a son of his as there is some dispute amongst some of the family trees that I have seen. The book states that it is difficult to get probate info, but the book was written in 1986, so has the situation changed? Would it be worth it to write to the court to attempt to obtain this info? Has anyone actually gotten a look at this particular file?

Thanks,

Raymond Gross

I am searching for information on my great grandparents William MORGAN and Louisa CHANCE(?). They lived in Tracy City, Grundy Co. from abt. 1888 until their deaths. Their son Robert MORGAN b. 12 Feb,1898 m. Leona Boyd 1901
in 1917.Leona's Parents are David Boyd b.1875 and Rutealia (Tealy) Kilgore b. 1879. Rutealia's parents are Oliver W. Kilgore and Malinda Evaline (AUNT BABE) SAMPLE(?).
Willam and Louisa had the folowing children:
John b. 1885
Millie b. 1886
Allie M. b. 1888 (possibly went by Minnie)
George W. b. 1894
Robert Lee b. 1898
Simon b. 1900

Any information would be greatly appreciated. This is the brick wall side of the family and I would really like to break through it. There is a possibility that Williams father was James MORGAN and his mother was Martha (?). My grandpa used to tell me that he had a granny Green, whether this was a first or last name I do not know. Robert Lee was my grandfather.

Thanks in advance for any help.
Grundy County Goodmans in Oklahoma

Hello all,
I've been researching my grandparents and have found that they left Grundy County for only the 1910 census. I have finally found them in Oklahoma. The interesting thing is that there is another Tennessee Goodman (Solomon P) who did the same thing at the same time. Here is what I found:

1910 Census for Bourland Twp, Jefferson County, Oklahoma shows a Solomon P. Goodman, age 42, Male, White, born in TN. He's shown as a Retail Merchant with an unreadable description that looks like it starts with an F. He has a wife Alice from Georgia.

1910 Census for Ardmore, Carter County, Oklahoma shows a W.L. Goodman age 35, Male, White, born in TN. He's shown as a Saleman for Retail Furniture.
wife, Mary age 29 b. TN
son, Henry age 10 b. TN
son, Guinn age 8 b. TN
son, Earl age 5 b. TN
son, Bruce no age b. TN

The Solomon P. Goodman is possibly the son of John W. Goodman and Eliza Gilliam. John W. was the son of THE Solomon Poindexter Goodman, of Grundy. The W.L. Goodman is definitely my grandparents. This explains why my father was born in Ardmore, Oklahoma and all of his siblings (before & after) in Grundy County, Tennessee.

These two counties are very close together and the 1907-1920 period saw a lot of Chickasaw lands get settled by whites.

My theory has some conflicts with Solomon P's actual birth and death according to his tombstone, but it sure looks like quite a few Tennessee people migrated to Oklahoma after 1907.

John Goodman

The names that I am looking for is Anthony (Tony) Schmitt and Olga (Kalm) Kupanowski. They were supposedly married in December 1915. Would like to get a copy of their marriage license, marriage application (or whatever it's called with all the individual family info on it), and any newspaper info that might have been. Will be willing to pay for copies, postage, transportation, or whatever is needed.

There is a man named William Harrison from Virginia who is buried in the Wilkinson Cemetary across from where I live. I have no evidence that I am related to this man but do not have any information about him either. I do know that he married a woman with the last name Wilkinson. If any one out there has any knowledge of who this man is please e-mail me at javertech@cafes.net.
Can anyone help me with locating where Civil District #8 was in Grundy County during the 1850 census. My Handy book of Genealogy says Grundy was taken from Coffee and Warren County. My gggggrandfather Joel DeShields/Dayshields/Deshaiss lived in Grundy County, District 8 at that time. He lived in Coffee County before and after 1850. My question is, is this district anywhere close to Beech Grove, Tennessee? Any help would be appreciated.

Hello Everyone, I am the gg grandaughter of MILTON P. SANDERS and SELINA P. COPE of Grundy County TN

Elizabeth Canzada KILGORE was born in nearby Marion County TN in 1855. She married my gggrandfather William Thomas DICKSON in Altamont, Grundy Tn on 15 Mar 1872. According to family ledgend, Canzada was full blooded Cherokee. My gggf Milton was the son of THOMAS SANDERS (1790) AND MARY ROBERTS (1814) OF NC. Considered one of the early pioneers of the area, they both lived and died in Grundy County TN. They had 18 Children. Miltons wife SELINA Cope was the daughter of Comfort Bouldin and Stephen Payne Cope Sr. They also lived and died in Grundy County TN. They had 16 children. Stephen was the son of James Bradley Cope (b in Orange County NC 1776). Comforts' parents were TEMPERENCE SANDERS AND LEWIS BOLIN. I have Temperence listed as being born in NC abt 1774 in NC and have not been able to locate Lewis's place of birth so far. There is more info available at my site if you are interested. According to oral family history, Temperence & Lewis were also full Cherokee. I have never seen a photo of any ancestor that I have mentioned here, but would consider the opportunity a wonderful blessing! Would appreciate any leads or advice. I absolutley "hunger" for family lore and such so please email me anytime with your stories. Thanks so much, Alma see my family info at rootsweb. link here for the index: http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=alma&amp...

Milton Porter SANDERS<<>>Military Tombstone-question

Hi There,

I need some guidance and hope someone can help me.

I am the great-great granddaughter of Milton Porter Sanders who
was born 24 JUN 1836 in Pelham, Coffee County, Tennessee to Thomas and Mary Sanders. I have yet to prove His exact date of death and need some advice. (concerning military tombstone info)

I've searched the "Death records of Grundy County Tenn." By C Sherrill and did not find a record for Milton there. I did find an obit from the Tracy City newspaper re the death of G.C. Sanders on 1 June 1911, which mentions his brothers John R. and Porter Sanders. That would indicate that my ancestor was still living at that time.

I did learn that there is a Confederate marker for Milton P. Sanders in the Clouse Hill Cemetery, but it has no dates. Wouldn’t someone have to apply for that military tombstone? It seems that whoever requested the CSA headstone for Milton must have provided some info about his service and ought to have included a death date.

I am not sure if I should be looking for these records at NARA or do I need to contact a Federal Agency for these records? I have no idea!!! Could someone please lead me in the right direction here? I would truly appreciate the guidance.

Thanks in advance!
Alma
Berlin Underhill-Store Owner, Monteagle-b.1909

I am looking for any information on Berlin Underhill. He was born about 1909 in Warren Co., TN to George Wesley Underhill and Hassie Davis. 1930 census shows him in Chattanooga at age 21 as bank collector. I have never found him show with any initials, only Berlin. I was told by a deceased relative that he had moved to Monteagle and had a store, possibly around intersate 24. Any help greatly appreciated!

Hi everyone,

I've designed a new Grundy County website that I think you may be interested in. I've taken all my links, photos, and websites that pertain to Grundy County and added them all here. Then I asked other researchers I know to contribute. What a response! The website has many different things that you'll find interesting. If you have anything you'd like to add, send me an email and I'll add it to the site.

www.grundycountytennessee.homestead.com

Sharon
