I've always heard there were a lot of Stafford's in & around Gainsboro and Jackson County. I've traced my line back to Adam Stafford born 1788 in NC. He relocated to Gainsboro and/or Jackson Co. where most of his children were born. I think some of his siblings or cousins may have relocated ffrom NC as well. His children were:

1.WIlliam Bedford Stafford - b. 1821 (in NC)
2.Sara Stafford-Noels - b. 1831
3.Andrew Jackson Stafford - b.1832
4.James Stafford - b. 1835
5.Eliza Stafford-Lee - b. 1837

His son, Andrew Jackson Stafford, relocated to McDonald Co., MO where some of his descendants still live. I too am from this line originating with A.J. Stafford.

Does anyone have any information on Adam Stafford, his wife, siblings, or others? Thanks for the post

Good Luck
Tim Stafford
Is anyone researching the Gilmore Family that came from N.C. to Jackson Co. TN. by 1840. Listed in Jackson Co. TN. in the 1840 and 1850 census. William Gilmore b.1790, wife Winna Gilmore b.1795, children listed in 1850, James, Nancy, Elijah, Ellen. Older children already married or left the household by 1850, Edith, John L., Samuel, William Jr., Elizabeth, and another unknown daughter Gilmore. I descend through Elizabeth Gilmore b. 1828 and married John Smith b. 1827. Surely there are more descendants still living who know more about this Gilmore Family. I would like to exchange information with other Gilmore descendants from this line. Thanks Shelia

George Percy and Sina Apple

Hello.

I am trying to find information on George Percy and Sina Apple. Percy and Sina were married 3 Oct 1883 in Smith County. Sina's maiden name is listed as Apple.

I believe that George is the son of John and Amanda Apple of Smith County, he was born Oct 1859 according to the 1900 Census. He went by the name of George and Percy (Pursey).

I am not able to find his wife's family. On the same census her DOB is June 1867. We have found a Sina on the 1880 census, but she is living with Nancy Elrod. Her age is a couple years off from what we have and she is listed as a 3rd cousin. They also do not have another last name listed for her, only Elrod.

I am also thinking George and Sina passed away sometime between 1900-1910. Their children and their place of residence in 1910 are below.

Annie Mae (b. Jan 1885) married to Ezekiel Apple 23 Sept 1903
Oscar (b. Feb 1891) living with Oliver brother and Della Apple; listed as a nephew - Oliver is George's Brother
Hargia (b. May 1893) unknown
Verley/Verla (b. Nov 1895) living with John H. and Mary Apple (John H. is Jackson Apple's son) and listed as a cousin
Minnie Apple (b. Sept 1898) - living with Minnie (Apple) and Dan McDonald; listed as a niece - Minnie is George's sister

Hope that all makes sense! I would appreciate any assistance!

Thanks in advance
Naomi Troutz

William Marshall

I am doing family research on William Marshall whom I believe was related to Benjamin Marshall who was born in Mecklenburg Co., VA around 1771. I think William was born in VA around 1765 - 1770 and moved on to Rutherford Co. and Granville Co., NC in the late 1780's and 1790's. Then he moved on to the Jackson Co. and Overton Co., TN area where he lived until around 1830. During that time Benjamin Marshall lived in Monroe Co. KY and for a time I think in Overton Co. and/or Clay Co. TN. A David Marshall also lived in the Jackson Co. and Overton Co., TN area and I feel all 3 men were related but I am not sure how. About 1830 William Marshall and several of his children (George N., John, Elisha, Jordan, David, James, possibly a Thomas and William, and Catherine Marshall Marrett) along with some Carpenter family members moved to the Mason Co., and Cass Co., IL area. William is said to have died in Cass Co., IL at a great age (possibly in 1856 or 1857). I have little information on this William Marshall as to who his parents were or who his wife or wives were. Anyone having any information about this William Marshall please contact me. William's youngest son, James, is my gg grandfather and I would love to learn more about his father.
Jan

William Jones and Anna L. Woodruff

I am looking for info on my gggrandparents. They are WILLIAM JONES and ANNA LOUISE WOODRUFF.
I think they were in Tennessee first and then came up to Massachusetts. My ggrandmother, ANNA LOUISA JONES, was born in Jackson, TN. Unfortunately, they did not keep birth records when she was born.

I am trying to figure out date of William and Anna's marriage and location, and if there were other children also. According to the census of 1900, there daughter indicated that her parents were born in Tennesse.

Anna Louisa Jones ended up in MA with her parents and married WALTER A.COOPER in 1898. (Anna and her parents were living in Northampton at 109 Elm Street.)
Anna and Walter ended up having 5 children, (one died I assume at birth). My grandmother was Myrtle Eliza Cooper born in Massachusetts in 1911.

If anyone thinks they have a connection or so.. please dont hesitate to contact me.

Lfelixthekat
I'm searching for William J. Henson's parents. I have William J. Henson (b. 1834) living with Thomason (b. 1801) and Emily Hinson (1850 she was 31 y.o.) in 1850 and 1840 in Jackson County, TN. Thomason's mother Ana Hinson (born in NC) resides with them too.

In 1820 Tomlinson Henson was living in Monroe County, KY with a female about his same age (so obviously not Emily)

In the Jackson County, TN 1850 census - they deliberately spell William J.'s name differently than the family he is living with. I take that to mean that he is of blood, but something is off. I am assuming that Emily is not his birth mother, but I have to prove that his father is Thomason Tomlinson Hinson in order to move back.

Any information at all?

Robin - deadlinz@aol.com
When I check the census using Ancestry's Images Online the only county listed is Rutherford. The earliest land records I have found for the Kinnard line is 1812 when Birket bought 27 acres on the west fork of Roaring River adj. John Richmond to include John Clairy's old improvement. Sept 7, 1812. Would that still be a part of Jackson Co. TN in 1810 or listed under a different county? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks Sharon

Looking for Information on Jonas B. GRIFFITH b. abt 1812 in Jackson Co.

I have just received the "Muster and Descriptive Rolls" entry from the State of Illinois for my ggg-grandfather Jonas B. Griffith. In this record, Jonas stated that he was born in Jackson County, Tennessee. He enlisted twice in the Civil War, from Wayne County, Illinois. As of 25 December 1864, he was listed as deserted or drowned, and other service records indicate that he had drowned in the White River of Arkansas.

From census records, I have found his wife's name to be Priscilla, and childrens' names of Margaret Adeline (my gg-grandmother), Thomas Perry, William R., and Samuel J. B. Griffith. I have some additional information on the children.

I am looking for clues as to who Jonas' parents were. The 1820 census of Jackson County lists three Griffiths with sons of Jonas' age - Jonas, Samuel, and David. Of course, it is possible that my Jonas is Jonas Jr.

Thank you.

Help with location of 19th century landmarks near Cumberland River

I am trying to locate as precisely as possible two locations near the Cumberland River that appear in 19th century documents from Jackson County.
1) Does anyone know where the Buck Point Post Office was? Apparently it operated between 1849 and 1866.
2) Does anyone know of a landing on the Cumberland called Bloomfield Landing? This comes from testimony in a 1904 Jackson County case. The names associated with this landmark include Raney Moss, H. P. Loftis, Norris Crowder and Henry Bailey.

I will greatly appreciate any help anyone can give me.

John Morrel

Found him on a 1900 Indian Territory, Atoka, Oklahoma census as widowed boarding with Abraham & Francis TAYLOR, his son Charlie JONES(my daugther in law's grandfather),age 6, was boarding with Alva & Elizabeth TAYLOR, which was the family just above Abraham TAYLOR. The TAYLOR famlies were also from Tennessee. Any info. will be greatly appreciated. Pat

We may be the leading Kittrell resource out there and we are free to descendants and spouses and helpful to everybody else.

We may be the leading Kittrell resource out there and we are free to descendants and spouses and helpful to everybody else.

We have a family tree of nearly 35000 (35K) Kittrell descendants and spouses that is totally private and a MyFamily site that is private and free and available to all Kittrell descendants and spouses.

Just post or e-mail if you fit the bill and want to see thousands of bits of Kittrell info.

The area of the future Gates County of North Carolina is the origin in the USA of the largest Kittrell family and Bertie County, NC was the home of one or more of the next generation, and later they moved on through Craven, Pitt, Granville, Carteret, Davidson and other NC counties as land grew to scarce for the number of male heads of household to feel that they could prosper.

After that period of homesteading in various counties, many in some branches moved to other states including many times over Tennessee, with Sumner appearing to be one of the first stops and many times over Maury County and other coumties including listed alphabetically Anderson, Cannon, Coffee, Davidson, DeKalb, Hamilton, Henry Hickman, Jackson, Knox, Lawrence, Lewis, Loudon, Macon, Marshall, Maury, Meigs, Monroe, Montgomery, Morgan, Perry, Rutherford, Shelby, Smith, Sumner, Trousdale, Wayne, White, Williamson, Wilson and Weakley Counties, among many other, later became the home of many Kittrells of one line or another or multiple lines.

Anyone with Kittrell in their lore please write or post or both!

Anyone with Kittrell in any Tennessee document is welcome to write and to share info on an area rich in Kittrells, complicated to delineate from which Kittrell they descend and of which we have a large knowledge. We lose track of some of the female Kittrell lines consistently in every generation and would like to add them back to the family tree.

The name has many spellings through the centuries in public record including as examples only Kittrell, Kittrel, Kitrel, Kitrell, Kitterlin, Kitterill, Kitterell,..., leterally dozens or literally dozens depending how well you spell such things.

We will assist anyone on Kittrell matters (for free of course other than the wealth we get from both of us sharing some of what we know).

And we will be most pleased to find more missing links broken from our tree due to distance and change of generations to those who barely know a whit of their Kittrell kin.

Dr. Barton H. Moss

Hello everyone, I am looking for information on my 3rd great grandfather Dr. Barton H. Moss and his marriage to his first wife Marinda Carter born 1845 in Tn, and died 1880 in TN. Barton's date of birth was 20 May 1845 and date of death as 20 Jul 1933 in Willow, Oklahoma. I have the 1870 and 1880 census with them together.

I can't find any census with my 3rd great grandmother Ella Moss listed.

Ella Moss - McAlpin(e) born 3 Nov 1866 in Clay - Jackson Co, Tn and died 18 May 1947 in Addington, Jefferson co, OK her father is Dr. Barton Harlon Moss, her mother is suppose to be Marinda M. Carter

Barton and Marinda were married in 1867 1 year after Ella's birth so i'm thinking Ella's mother may be someone else..

Ella Moss married George Washington McAlpin(e) between 1880 and 1883 had three children. They split up and She remarried to a George W. Kendall and ahd more children.

Family history handed down by word of mouth was that Marinda died in the 1880. My great grandmother Clara (Ella's grand daughter) told us that Barton was treating a patient and he died of natural causes, but the patients wife blamed Barton and put quick silver in Bartons well killing Marinda and several children.

Does this ring a bell with anyone, I am at a loss on verifing this and could use a push in the right direction

I'm searching for the father of my 3rd great grandfather, Andrew Jackson b abt 1833 d 12-31-1862 at Battle of Parkers Crossroads. He was married to Martha Hawkins after the census was taken in 1850. On the 1850 census Andrew age 17 is in HH of Sally Jackson age 38 (mother?) with James age 14, John J age 10, Elisabeth age 7, Sally age 5. Assuming that the father died before the 1850 census their are six posibilities from the 1840 Jackson Co TN census that don't show up in 1850.
Andrew; Amos; Ezeriah; Isaia; John; William.
Any info that would prove or disprove anyone would be greatly appreciated.

John should have been
born abt. 1805 and in the 1850 Census they where in Jackson Co. and in 1860 they where in Dekalb Co.
Any information would be appreciated.

She was born in 1886/87, married in 1904, and died in 1960. She was daughter of Sam Tayes (sp?) and MIranda Neely (have seen spelling on this as MARanda Neely and MORanda Nealy as well - may/ may not be same person)

She may be from Jackson or Clay/Overton county (Hilham/Celina) area. She and Wint had a farm (~100 acres) near Willow Grove that State of TN took away and flooded as part of the TVA Dale Hollow Dam project. As a little girl, she did not go to school - she had a tutor teacher her (well-to-do family ???) She usually went by the name of Beckey. Both my mother and grandmother had very clear Native American features.

This is all I have to go on, so please, I need any help that I can get!
Andrew jackson Bowen

Searching for information on Andrew Jackson Bowen, family bible says he was born 1 June 1821 Jackson Co., TN, died 26 Sept. 1898 in Taney Co., MO. His father was William Bowen born abt 1775, other brothers are William Carroll Bowen (goes by Carroll) born 16 Oct. 1828 in Tennessee, died 16 June 1906 in Stanislaus Co., CA., somwhere along the line his name changed to Boen, and James Frederick Bowen was born abt 1831 in Tennessee, and died 19 Nov. 1873 in Santa Cruz Co., CA.

There was a John Bowen that was postmaster in the Jackson Co., but I haven't been able to connect the family. Andrew, his father William, and his brothers are all in the 1850 Jackson Twp., Newton Co., AR census. About 1859 James and Carroll migrated to California, while Andrew stayed back and farmed in Northern Arkansas, and Southern Missouri. I presume William died between 1850 and 1860 but I haven't found a cemetery, or any other record of his whereabouts after 1850.

Any info on Andrew, his father, or his brothers would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Matt Bowen

It states that all records for old Putnam Co is in Jackson Co., TN. Has anyone seen these records? Articlet also states that records for Putnam Co.,Tn from 1801 to 1854 are in Jackson Co. Can this be crorrect as previously word was that almost all Jackson Co records before 1860 burned???

1860 Jackson CO. LANCASTERS wanted

There are several Lancaster's listed in Jackson CO. TN. Are all of them related? Is William the Grandfather of all of them?
I finally realize that Enoch Lancaster must be the same as Clark Lancaster. My ggrandmother Mary was born abt. 1850 in Jackson CO. TN according to marraige record in 1881 Gallatin CO. IL. I do not know what happened to Enoch before 1860 or after. I assume he died before 1870, because he is not on any census of Gallatin CO. IL. I see some of the Lancasters married into the Cherry and Denton families. I would appreciate any of you who have an ancestor who married into the LANCASTER'S to let me know anything about the Lancasters.
Ramona
ramona2362@hotmail.com
