Jefferson Co, TN. William Edmonds (born 1847/48 son of Wm. & UNK-NOT Rhoda CHAMBERS) m1 Rebecca MOORE m2Minerva CRUZE.

There are posts that say he is William Anderson Edmonds, son of William Edmonds (abt1815) and Rhoda Chambers (abt1815).

I'm having three problems with that.

#1. In 1860, 1870 censuses he is just William, 1800 Wm., 1900 AND 1910 just William and 1920 and 1930 he's just W.M.

WHERE did someone get Anderson as his middle name. I think that's his son's middle name (the one who married Kilgore) but can find NO DATA on. I'm hoping there's a family member out there with a Bible or a will!

The dates listed for his man are strange also. According to all his censuses he was not born before 1845. . He is listed as younger than Theodrick on his dad's census. Theodrick (m Josephine BAKER) is pretty consistent with his birth years. Bet. 1843 - 1844

Since William is on the 1930 census with Minerva he didn't die in 1928. Most of their kids' data are at Atchley Funeral Home site but none of them list his middle name.

TVA records for grave reinterments: He and Roscoe were buried first in adjacent graves.
Edmonds W. M. 1848 1935 TN Jefferson Pleasant Hill ME 49-687 1942 Pleasant Hill Acdt
Edmonds Roscoe 1909 1922 TN Jefferson Pleasant Hill ME 49-688 1942 Pleasant Hill Tyfd

#2. Rhoda Chambers isn't his mother if his deposition to the VA on 1 November 1924 is correct. Phillip Walker found that he stated he was Mary's HALF brother. She was applying for widow's pension for William Jasper Samples.

#3. I can find no marriage for Wm. Chambers and Rhoda Chambers. I can find a Rhoda Vance in Dec 1850. Chambers might have been her married name and she was married to a Vance first, but I can't find that either.

All help appreciated.

Thanks.

Shirley

My GGGrandfather was Johnathan S. Ward who married Eliza ( S. or Woods?) Patton. He was born in 1808 in Virginia, and his father was born in Maryland. He lived for a time in Jefferson County, and their children were all born there. My Great Grandfather, Benjamin Harrison Ward was born in Dandridge. The children were Mary, Johnathan, Grisselle ( aka Grace,) Benjamin, Texana, Martha, and James ( not in that particular birth order.

We have not been able to take his lineage any farther.
Eliza has been listed 4 times as having been born in Indiana.
So there is much confusion here. any help would be so very appreciated.
Hi,

I am researching the Hickman Line. Looking for a Frederick HICKMAN, Frederick may have been a middle name. It is said, not proven, he was married twice, the second time to an Elizabeth HAWKINS and they had six children, Pleasant, Mary Jane, Aaron, Thomas, william and Sarah, all born Blount County, TN. I Believe Frederick died in Blount County, TN about 1845 to 1847 after the birth of Sarah as his widow moved to Osage County, now Maries County, MO and married Nathaniel ROWdEN there in 1848. Nothing has been found on this Frederick HICKMAN other than a tenious connection to the MOUNT family as it is said Frederick HICKMAN's first wife was a Mary MOUNT, a girl from the affluent MOUNT family.

I have a little other info and would appreciate communicating with you. I don't think this Frederick Hickman was from the elder Thomas Hickman's line and am very interested in your Hickman/Ward connections. Please contact me at mim@wmis.net

Walters / Sively families in Jefferson Co, in late 1700's - ~1830

Seeking ANY information on the Walters family/families in Jefferson County from 1787 through 1820's:

My g-g-g-g-grandfather ABSALOM Walters (b. 18 Feb 1786), wife Elizabeth (?) and childrenPETER, JOHN, DANIEL, SIMEON, ALICE. These children were all born in Jefferson County, TN. between 1810 - 1820. I cannot find any birth records other than those passed down in an old family record.

I especially need information on Absalom's parents - possibly JOHN WALTERS and SARAH SIVELY WALTERS, who were married in Shenandoah Co, VA in 1785. Their trail ends in Jefferson Co. Sively family records discuss Thomas and John Walters, along with their wives Elizabeth and Sarha and two Sively brothers - JACOB SIVELY and PETER SIVELY, moved together to Jefferson County, Tennessee in the late 1780’s. Some Sivelys moved on to Alabama, but the Walters probably stayed in Jefferson Co area .... my branch moved on to Fulton Co. Illinois between 1826 - 1830. Are John and Sarah Walters buried anywhere in Jefferson County?

Thanks for any help and asking around!

Lynn

That is strange, however, Bridget McGirk married EAVES after the death of LITTLEPAGE. All of the LITTLEPAGE children were not in the home shortly thereafter and Bridget had a whole new family with EAVES. Daughters of this union were Julie, Nettie and Bessie. One of these daughters may have married a man named CLUTTS as there is a child mentioned named Dallas Clutts. EAVES also had a son William who must have been either older than the girls or much younger (I'm thinking older) he left home in tender years as well. Perhaps EAVES mellowed after having the 3 daughters with Bridget. I also have a lead on Bridget McGirk's sister (named Martha (maybe)) who lived in the household with Bridget and Jesse EAVES. I do not know Martha's married name. Any help would be greatly appreciate. I have a picture of the EAVES family now as well as a picture of Sena Littlepage as a young woman.

Thank you so much for your help. I have been using ancestry.com and I was able to find ancestors of 3 out of 4 grandparent lines. I am just stuck on the Leonard paternal line. My name is Charles Edwin Leonard, 8/8/1953. My father is William Clifford Leonard, 1/19/1924---living. His father was William Bryant Leonard, 10/29/1896---expired 1/29/1974. He was married to Martha Augusta Morrisett, 1/7/1901-4/7/1986. All of us live/lived in Jefferson County, TN. William B. Leonard's father died before my father was born and I can not find any information on him. I do know he married a woman whose last name was Hickey. We also think he may have been part American Indian. Any help you can give me would be very helpful. Thank you again, Charles.

I would love to know the dates. Some say she died in 1918 and others say in 1928. She was born ca 1836 and was married to Lindsay Cooper.

Annette,

I'd like more information on what the book has on Thomas Jones in your post of 20 January 2009. What year range was this? I have the Early Tennessee Tax Lists book from Pollyanna Creekmore, and have found two entries for Thomas Jones in Jefferson County in 1800. I also have a copy of the Jefferson County Court record from November 1797 of the State v Thomas Jones.

Patrick Jones
pljones96@gmail.com

LENARD (the spelling changes) b. 11/1847, Hawkins Tn, married to Amanda L. Hickey, b. 1870, married 6-22-1893
This must be a second marriage for him, or either he waited late in life to marry.

in the 1910 Jefferson co. Tn census
george LENORD age 60
Low (hence the L. in amanda) age 41
Willie (William) age 13
jessie age 9
it shows that george and Low were married 18 years, and had two children.. both alive

in the 1860 Hawkins co. Tn census
we find George with his mother and siblings.. no father

Lidda Lenard (again the spelling changes).. thanks to phonics of TN age 59- b. tn
John 19
David 16
Louisa 15
Martha 14
John 12

interesting to note right below this household is most likely the oldest son of Lidda..

William Lenard 24, wife and children
Mary 20
Lucinda 1

next door is yet the oldest son
James lenard 27
susan 24
sarah 8
eliza 4
twins! Mary and Mimerva...10 months

so... I hope this helped you

please let me know if I can help further.
Joyce

I am looking for a marriage record for my 4G grandparents in Jefferson County, Tennessee about 1830.

His name was James Boulton sometimes spelled Bolton, b. about 1780 in SC. He married Sarah Villepontoux Evans (b. 1790 in SC) either late in 1829 or early 1830 in Jefferson County, Tennessee. Both were widower/widow. Her previous husband's name was George Evans also of SC.

Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

Pat Snead Wynn

Information on this marriage can be found in the book: "From the Emmental to Eldee..A History of the Layman Family" by Earl R. Layman. I corresponded for several years with Earl while he was writing this book and I was researching the Selvidge family. I have lost touch with him for a while now and I don't know if any more of his books are available, but you might find it at a library. I can tell you that Sarah Ailey (Ealy, Alley) was born 29 Mar 1790 and died after 1840 in Wayne Co., IL. She was the daughter of Henry and Christina Ketner Ailey. Jacob was the son of David Layman and was born 17 Jul 1778.

Ursula (age 74) is shown on the 1880 US Census in Bates Township, Carroll, Missouri Page 410 as the mother of Thomas McBroom, age 54 married to Martha. Also listed living at the same residence are sons Thomas (age 17); Ulysis (age 14); Loren (age 12); and Joseph E. (age 8).

I believe Ursula to be the mother of Thomas Jefferson McBroom who married Martha Catherine Miller on 13 Jan 1849 in Hawkins, Tennessee. They had a son; John Wesley McBroom born 20 March 1982 in Tennessee who married Sarah Ann (Eliza) Renick in 1888 and had 10 children of which Ada Pauline McBroom was my mother-in-law.

I have been unable to identify the name of Thomas Jefferson McBroom's father. If you have any information, please advise. Thanks, Cyndi Clark

I am looking for any information on both:

1. Annie Donaldson, who married Samuel Hoskins and had a son, Andrew D. Hoskins of 1820 in Jefferson Co., TN;

2. and M. Donaldson, who married Oliver T. Vincent and went on to have a daughter named Amanda Doley Vincent - who then married back into the Hoskins line by marrying Andrew D. in 1817 in Jefferson Co, TN.

Along with that, I am trying to locate where Amanda Doley Vincent and Andrew D. Hoskins may have ended up, if they were both from here. Possible burial locations? It seems later generations ended up in Hickman County, KY, but not these two so maybe they went back home.

Thank you.

Michael W. Hoskins
