I am looking for information on Harriet Hackney b. abt 1890 in Neva, Johnson County, Tennessee. Died 9 May 1967 in Connecticut. The story is that Harriet was orphaned and her mother's name was Susan Rebecca, but I can find no trace of her prior to her marriage in 1904.

If you have information, please let me know. Harriet was a maternal g-grandmother.

grandmother, Della Pearl Johnson (I think her moms name was Naomi) Lloyd & Della had 10 children (11 total..one stillborn).
what I have heard: we are related to President Andrew Johnson.

I have taken my family back to Ezekiel Curd who married Mary Potter of Johnson County, Tn. abt. 1776. Now, I need to find Ezekiel's parents. I have been told they could have been James Curd who married Abigail Stewart, but I can't find anything that tells me who their children were. Can anyone help me? I have no idea where James and Abigail may have been at that time either, could have been Barren County, KY. I have done some searching there, but have not found anything.

Seeking information regarding the husband of Mary (maiden name possibly LITTLE) (1771-1845) and father of the following PAYNE children, as well as their TN co. of residence between 1790-1810. Mary and the younger children were in Franklin Co., AL from 1820-1840, but without a husband in the household. News in 1902

I have been trying to locate a newspaper story from April of 1902 (I think the event occurred around 23rd of April 1902 and thus in the paper soon after). I have been to the library there with little luck.

On or about 4/23/1902 a man called William H. Rogers shot himself just inside the Johnson County line (coming from Holston Valley area of Sullivan County). The family story was that he also shot a young girl named Mary (perhaps his grand-daughter Mary Offield).

I have a coroner's report but have been unable to find either a newspaper report of the event or a criminal record/investigation.

Does anyone local have any thoughts or ideas?

I have a Nathan Morse/Morris who states in lived in an old soldier's home in Johnson City TN for five years. Previous posts state this was the National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers. Does anyone know of records that still exist for this facility or where they may be located? He was a Union veteran and died in 1919. He was in Spartanburg Co. In the 1900 census of Johnson County, three Shaver adults were living in the home of John Proffitt -- Fanny Shaver, James Shaver and Sallie Shaver. The Shaver adults (all between 40-50) are noted as single and acting in one capacithy or another for the Proffitt family.

Fanny is still with the family in 1910. Is anyone researching this family of Proffitts and can tell me anything about the Shavers ?

Also, does anyone have access to marriage or death records of Johnson County from 1900 forward that could tell me if Sallie or Fanny ever married and if any death was recorded for them.

I believe Fanny, james and Sallie are children of Elijah and Judith (or Julia) Shaver and trying to prove that Judith (or Julia) was a Rodgers.

Dennis born 1914-1915 was on the USS Searcher when it caught fire and died in Queens NY. Nov 14 1955.

Iva Lee Cook Born 1934 died 1969 in Chicago ILL.

Just had a breakthrough on my g-g-grandmother and found her tombstone in Fayette County, TN. She was Laurana PARDUE, born 11 Feb 1829, died 6 May 1905. Her son, William Riley Sheffield, was born in Carter Co., TN 6 Dec 1851 and apparently had a younger sister, Martha. I believe that Laurana (Lurena, Laraney . . .) was born in TN or NC and was widowed between 1855 and 1860, but I don't know that.

I am writing in hope that someone will have any little bit of information on Laurana or my family there. I know there were Sheffields in Carter and Johnson Counties; just don't know if or which ones are connected. Don't know anything yet about Pardues, since I first got that name yesterday at the cemetery!

Hello! I am trying to find the burial places for Matthias and Mary Vaught Wagner. Matthias was born around 1799. He was the son of Col. David Wagner and Mary Catherine Hagey. Mary was born around 1805 and was the daughter of Joseph Vaught and Nancy Goodwin. Children were Sabra (1840-1922), Nancy Loretta (1837-?), George (1825-?), Joseph G. (1828-1856), McClellan (1831-1857), Celia Nancy (1835-?), Desdemona (1850-?), Noah (1845-1925), and Catherine (1826-1922).

Noah and Mary were still living in 1870, as they were included in the 1870 census for Johnson County.

Looking for information on the family of William Abel born about 1800 married to Elizabeth? living in Johnson Co. in the 1800s. Had the following known children Valentine Bidleman Abel born about 1827 married Margaret Felty, Joseph Abel born about 1838 married Nancy Ann Felty and Rebecca Jane Abel born about 1834 married Michael Felty. The Felty children are believed to be the children of George Felty and Margaret Hurt of Washington Co. Va. Both the Abel and Felty families may have come from Wythe county Va. i am trying to find info. on my great grandfather john wiley chism johnson. little is known about him except that he married my great grandmother disa or dicey roden. she was from dekalb county alabama. dont know where bouts he from except tennessee and do not know who his johnson family were. in 1902 my grandfather was born in macon, georgia-jimmie johnson their son. jimmie worked with his dad john at the shipyards in jacksonville, florida and in 1929 they moved to red river county texas. disa had a sister there- nancy roden fletcher. jimmie met and married my grandmother ruth kelley who was born deaf. disa died around 1932 and john remarried. he died around 1940.nothing is known about his tennesse johnson family. any help on john wiley chism johnson and his tennesse kin is more than greatly appreciated!

Becky Venable in the 1910 Johnson County Census in District 1 is widowed with 4 children: Daily C. age 8; Haskie ? M. age 7; Dara L. age 5; and Flora P. age 2.

There were three Venable males in Johnson County Census in 1900: William L., James H. and Lafayette. In the 1910 census, only William doesn't show up. So, by process of elimination, I'm thinking that Becky (maiden name unknown) married William L. Venable around 1901 and he died before 1910. Can anyone shed any light on this?

( 2 ) that John had a son Andrew Jackson SHULL, probably by his first marriage.

It appears he had two other children probably by his first marriage:
(1) Sarah J. SHULL, b. abt. 1828, married Alfred Campbell
(2) William H. SHULL, b. abt. 1830, married Lucinda Campbell
Sarah J. and William H. are on 1850 census with John and Sarah.
Also, John and Sarah had at least 9 children.

Andrew J. (Jackson) SHULL b. abt. 1827 married Eleanor BRADLEY June 10, 1846 in Johnson Cty., TN. He died before 1880 probably Wolfe Cty., KY.
Andrew and Eleanor were on 1850 and 1860 Johnson Cty., TN census after which they moved

I'm seeking info about Jesse Lewis, wife Lucinda "Lucy", and family who were in Shouns Crossroads area of Johnson County, Tenn.

Jesse, born about 1815-1825, and wife Lucy, born about 1818-1828, appear in the 1850 and 1860 census records for Johnson Co. Both census indicate they were born in North Carolina. As for children, place of birth listed as N.C. for oldest two and Tenn. for rest.

In 1850, Jesse and Lucy appear with children - Elizabeth, 7, Charity, 5, Sarah, 3, Alfred, 2, and Polly Mary (Ann? - writing hard to read) 2/12.

In 1860, Jessee and Lucinda appear with children - Elizabeth, 16; Charity, 15; Sarah, 13; Alfred, 12; Mary, 10; James, 8; Henry, 2; and Hila, 2/12.

i am looking for information regarding a Juda Louisa Ingram. According to one piece of information I've been able to find, she was a native of Watauga County, North Carolina. She married Samuel E. Northington in Tennessee in 1874, more than likely in Johnson County, as that's apparently where Samuel began his dentistry career.

I have a picture of a young lady with a written notation on the back that says "Miss Lou Ingram." I have another photo labeled "John Ingram Boone NC." These pictures are in a very old pocket-sized photo album with a handwritten label in it that reads "S E Northington's book Taylorsville, Tenn.December 1873." I would like to know if this John is Louisa's father, but I'm not having any luck finding information through census records of Watauga Co., NC or Johnson Co., TN.

I am trying to find a marriage record for my 2gr-grandparents. Thomas Jefferson Davenport b. 22 Jul 1862 Johnson Co, TN m. Mary Lavina Parsons b. 8 Jul 1854(?). They married about 1880 in TN.

Thomas' parents were Elizabeth Osborn and James Davenport, of Ashe Co, NC. I do believe that Elizabeth attended the Pleasant Hill Church ("Old Osborn church"???) at the top of a hill above the Payne/Farmer Cemetery, where she is buried, near Mountain City.

Hello! I am trying to find information regarding James Jackson, who was born in Tennessee in/around 1821. My notes indicate that his first name was William. He married Mahulda Dunn (1821-bet. 1870 & 1880), daughter of Godfrey B. Dunn and Mary Morris. Children of James and Mahulda include Godfrey Morris, John Leander/Landrum, Henry W., James Rufus, Polly Russell, Patsy B., George Marion, and Scott.

The notes indicate also that James Jackson was the son of Stephen Jackson, whose origins are unknown to me at this time. There was no name of Stephen's wife.

If anyone knows of this Jackson family, please contact me. I have found James and Mahulda in the 1850 Johnson County, Tennessee census record. In the 1860 record, Mahulda and children Rufus, Henry, Martha (Patsy), George, and Winfield (Scott) were living with Mahulda's father, Godfrey B. Dunn. In 1870, Mahulda was the head-of-household, with Mary, Martha, Scott, Joseph M., and Julia A. in the household. Mary, I believe, was actually my 2great-grandmother, Polly Russell, and Joseph and Julia were her children.

I am searching for any information on John ADAMS who appeared in 1796 Carter County court documents, Jesse ADAMS and Elisha ADAMS who appeared on the 1796 Carter County Tax List. I believe they could have been related to Sarah ADAMS who married George CROSSWHITE in Carter County in 1796. George and Sarah were my 3rd gt. grandparents.

John ADAMS was named in the administration of the will of Samuel McQueen (d. 1794) in 1796. Samuel McQueen was my 4th gt. grandfather. Several others named in the administration of his will were Mathais Waggoner, David Wagoner, Rowland Jenkins, John Vaught and Joseph Sands.

I can't prove it yet, but I think it is likely my ADAMS, MCQUEEN, and DUGGER ancestors came together from Wilkes Co., NC to Washington Co., NC.

Hello fellow family researchers. I need some help. I am the great great grandson to John A Brooks born in NC 1839. I have been looking for many years to find his father. Back around 1984 I went to Mountain City Tn to do some research and met a gentleman named Eck(Alexander) Brooks(1898-1989) turns out hw was a 1st cousin twice removed. In other words his dad and my Great Great Grand were brothers. Eck told me that he remebered that our folks moved in from Jefferson area of Ashe Co, NC. I have found a Hardin Broox with a son John A in Piney Creek Ashe County NC on the 1850 census. After that John A Brooks born in NC, shows up in Mountain City Tn married to Rebecca Arnold in 1850, he is 21 on the census report. Both John and Rebecca are buried in Mountain City, Tn. Is there any one that has any info on this family? Or can anyone give me some advice on how to prove my theory of the two John's being the same?

Henry Nease Johnson was my great grandfather. He was from south central Tennessee I believe and married a Collins from Limestone County Alabama. He would have been born shortly after the civil war. I have no knowledge of the Johnsons beyond him. I would appreciate any information anyone might have.

Could I get someone from Johnson County, Tennesse do a death certificate and obituary look-up for Silas Heaton. Silas Heaton was born on December 22, 1929 and died December 1977 in Johnson County, Tennessee. I don't have a day of the month for his death date. I did a search on Social Security Death Index and found the information about his death. I would like a non-certified copy of his death certificate and a newspaper published obituary with the published date and page number. Aris is the sgt on the right and first row of the picture. Aris was married to Josie Manning and they lived in Carter County TN. Aris was both a Sheriffs deputy and a mail carrier in Hampton. Josie was the daughter of James (Uncle Jim) Manning and Elizabeth P. (Betty) Fletcher both of Carter County, TN.
