William Elvis Blalock 1917-2008

From the Macomb Daily, Mt. Clemens, MI
Monday, November 24, 2008
William E. Blalock
William Elvis Blalock, 91, of Warren, died Friday, Nov. 21, 2008, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born Oct. 19, 1917, in Lewisburg, Tenn.
Mr. Blalock was raised in Tennessee and moved to Michigan as a young man to seek employment. He worked for White Tower Restaurant, Budd Wheel and Cadillac Motor Car when he was first married.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II where he attained the rank of shipfitter third class. He entered military service on Aug. 17, 1943, in Detroit, and was discharged on Nov. 7, 1945 at Great Lakes, Ill.
After his military service, he moved back to Tennessee with his young bride and opened his own bar and grill restaurant. However his wife became homesick and the family moved back to Michigan where he would again own restaurants. For many years he owned and operated the Circle Drive-in and B&B’s Restaurant at 11 Mile and Groesbeck, until his retirement in 1989.
Mr. Blalock enjoyed his retirement, finally having the time to do the things he enjoyed. He spent his free time gardening, baking, making his own wine, and being with his children, grandchildren, and family down in Tennessee.
An avid Detroit Tigers baseball fan, he bowled until his health prevented the sport. His favorite times were spent with family and visiting Las Vegas and Tennessee.
Mr. Blalock is survived by his children, Janet Phillips, Nanci (Dennis) Gonzales, Cynthia Blalock, and Gregory (Michell); siblings, Thomas (Joyce) Blalock and Christine Hardison of Tennessee; grandchildren, Frank (Libby) Raab, Wesley Phillips, Colleen (Jay) Babbitt, Kirsten (Jeff) Gnippe, Christopher and Samantha; great-grandchildren, Jocelyn, Tristan, Bryce, Koen, and Cooper.
He was predeceased by his wife, Barbara; son, Donald Blalock; and parents, Leslie Blalock and Melvina (nee: Cole) Blalock.
A funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover (at Common), Warren, with the Rev. David Hutsko officiating.
Visitation is 2-9 p.m. today.
Memories may be shared with the family at www.Temrowski.com

Submitter's note: I am not related to this family and I do not have any additional information to share. I posted it to help those who may be kin to or knew Mr. Blalock.

George Washington Dement died before 1848. His wife Nancy b. 2 Dec 1811 and nine children are on the Marshall Co. 1850 census. They may have been listed as "DEEMENT of DAMENT." She died about 1856 and has probate in Rutherford Co. TN and Marshall Co. TN. William J. PHILLIPS is guardian of the minor children. Most of the children go to Obion Co. TN and then to Stoddard Co. Nancy J. and sister
Ruth appear in the 1870 Marshall County Census next
door to their father George Sharp and mother Cyntha
( Darnell ). ( George Sharp's first wife was Mary Hamilton )
Both Nancy J. and Ruth have children but their husbands
were not there. February 10, 1947,Giles Co., TN. They
married June14, 1890, Marshall Co., TN. The 1900 Marshall
County Census list Robert Chilton b. March 1831, TN and
his wife Mary E. ____. b January 1840. Monroe Chilton is
also listed in the 1900 Census for Marshall County but
located in a different area as Robert Chilton. They appear to
be father and son but I am not sure. A death record has
Robert Chilton d. May 28, 1909, Lewisburg, TN but his age
is listed as 83 ( b. 1826 ) which is different than the 1900
Census.

Could George Chilton married Mary E.

My Cummins line is found by 1800, Rutherford County, TN. I am told that another Cummins line is found in Marshall County and that a John Cummins/Cummings married a Eunice Hunter in this county. I seek to establish a connection - if any - between the Hunters of this county and those from KY that migrated to MO. The son of John Cummins - Richard Waller Cummins - married Mary Kavanaugh in MO. Mary's family came from KY to upper TN, then to MO. Their son, also John - married Henrietta W. Hunter in MO. Her family was also from KY. Does anyone know who Eunice Hunter's parents were?

BOGLE, SCOTT

I am trying to piece together some connections with these two families in Marshall County. In 1842, a Robert Bogle was convicted of manslaughter in the death of Caleb Pyle and sentenced to 6 yrs. in state prison. The state prison has no record of him serving time. What happened to him?

In 1850, there were two Bogle households enumerated, both on page 290. In household # 677 was Joseph Bogle, age 35 b. TN, living alone. In household # 681 was Thomas Bogle, 27 b. TN, with wife Nancy 25, and apparent daughter Mary age 5. Thomas and Nancy may be the couple who married in Marshall County the year before: Thomas Bogle m. Nancy Jane Elkins 23 Sept 1849. Nancy seems to be the daughter or at least heir of Indamon Elkins of Cannon Co., TN; she is mentioned in the settlement of Indamon's estate. This indicates to me that these Bogles could be connected to the many Bogles in Cannon Co.

I also believe these Bogles are connected to my ancestor, Robert Bogle. Robert stated on his Civil War enlistment papers that he was born in Cannon Co., TN in 1833. I have never been able to connect him to any of the Bogles in that county. He married Elizabeth Ann Scott in 1853 in Montgomery Co., AR. Elizabeth Ann was living with her parents in Marshall Co., TN in 1850; they were in household # 676, enumerated on p. 290, next to Joseph Bogle mentioned above. Elizabeth Ann was the daughter of William T. Scott and Eliza Ann Leonard, formerly of Lincoln Co., TN.

Another connection might be made between the Bogles and Scotts in Marshall Co.: Elizabeth Bogle who married William M. Scott around the same period. I haven't been able to determine who William M. Scott was.

I would appreciate any information you could provide!

I have asked information before on Prior P. DAVIS, but now I can narrow it down a bit. He lived around Lewisburg, Marshall County, Tennessee. He is listed in the Census between 1830 - 1860. Any information on this family would be appreciated.
I'm trying to track down Mary E. McKnight (nee Larwood) who lived on Cochran Cemetery Road circa 1895. From what I can gather, she was born in 1852 in Delina and married William Robert McKnight in 1868. William died sometime between 1881 and 1900 (at least that's what I can ascertain from census records). Any information on either Mary, William, or their children would be most helpful.

Thanks!
Alexa

We may be the leading Kittrell resource out there and we are free to descendants and spouses and helpful to everybody else.

We have a family tree of nearly 35000 (35K) Kittrell descendants and spouses that is totally private and a MyFamily site that is private and free and available to all Kittrell descendants and spouses.

Just post or e-mail if you fit the bill and want to see thousands of bits of Kittrell info.

The area of the future Gates County of North Carolina is the origin in the USA of the largest Kittrell family and Bertie County, NC was the home of one or more of the next generation, and later they moved on through Craven, Pitt, Granville, Carteret, Davidson and other NC counties as land grew to scarce for the number of male heads of household to feel that they could prosper.

After that period of homesteading in various counties, many in some branches moved to other states including many times over Tennessee, with Sumner appearing to be one of the first stops and many times over Maury County and other coumties including listed alphabetically Anderson, Cannon, Coffee, Davidson, DeKalb, Hamilton, Henry Hickman, Jackson, Knox, Lawrence, Lewis, Loudon, Macon, Marshall, Maury, Meigs, Monroe, Montgomery, Morgan, Perry, Rutherford, Shelby, Smith, Sumner, Trousdale, Wayne, White, Williamson, Wilson and Weakley Counties, among many other, later became the home of many Kittrells of one line or another or multiple lines.

Anyone with Kittrell in their lore please write or post or both!

Anyone with Kittrell in any Tennessee document is welcome to write and to share info on an area rich in Kittrells, complicated to delineate from which Kittrell they descend and of which we have a large knowledge. We lose track of some of the female Kittrell lines consistently in every generation and would like to add them back to the family tree.

The name has many spellings through the centuries in public record including as examples only Kittrell, Kittrel, Kitrel, Kitrell, Kitterlin, Kitterill, Kitterell,..., leterally dozens or literally dozens depending how well you spell such things.

We will assist anyone on Kittrell matters (for free of course other than the wealth we get from both of us sharing some of what we know).

And we will be most pleased to find more missing links broken from our tree due to distance and change of generations to those who barely know a whit of their Kittrell kin.

James G. White Family

Does anyone have any information on the James G. White family of Marshall County, TN? I am researching a James White who was born in NC around 1810 but moved into Marshall County, TN and then up into Missouri on the 1860 census. I found a James G. White on the 1840 Marshall County, TN census. But, I am not sure if he is my James White or not. Does anyone have any info on this James G. White? Family names that seem to run from this line are: William, Willis, Guylet, Eliza, Abraham, Horace and John Steel. My William W. White was born in Marshall County, TN in 1843. His father was James White and there was a woman living in that 1860 census who was in her 30's. Her name was Eliza White and I do not know if she was William's mother, step-mother or sister. Any info on the White families of Marshall County TN in the 1840's thru the 1860's would be so appreciated. There was also a child named Ronah Pinkney about 7 living there, too. Perhaps he was a step child?

I am trying to find something on Ganum or Ganium Davis who I believe died in Marshall Co. about 1851-1855. He was born in abt. 1822. He had a wife Mary Emaline Minnick Davis and daughter Sarah Elizabeth.
I am trying to prove his death and I suspect he didn't have a Will because he was so young, but there might have been court records as to the guardianship of his daughter Sarah. His wife went back to Rhea Co. after his death which is where he was from. I also suspect that his father was Thomas Davis who in the 1850 Marshall Co. census was born in 1787 and wife Elizabeth who were living in Marshall Co. at the time of his death along with Polly born 1808 age 42, Cisily born 1831, Louisa born 1833 and Giles born 1835 or 1836..
Can anyone help me find some record of all of this?
Edmonson (Edmondson) family in Williamson & Marshall County, TN

Edmonson Edmondson) family in Williamson County & Marshall County, TN
Author: Bob Edmonson Classification: Query
I am trying to find some family tree members in Tennessee for my great grandfather and great grandmother that moved from Williamson County, TN in the late 1880's by covered wagon to Lamar County, Texas. From studying some of the 1900 to 1930 Census records I have noted a large number of Edmonson (Edmondson) in the census records of Williamson County for that time frame. My great grandfather was R. C. Edmonson (Edmondson) and he married my great grandmother Emily Simmons in 1870 in Williamson County. I know very little regarding him, but I have located him in the 1880, 1870 and possibly the 1860 Census in Williamson County, Tennessee. I am particularly interested in Ollie Edmonson who is listed in the 22nd District of Williamson County in the 1920 Census and the 1910 and 1930 Census of Marshall County. His wife's name was Dora. One of the male children was shown as Kemmons and another as Horace. Inasmuch as my great grandfather named his eldest son Horace and Horace Edmonson named one of his sons Clemon (sounds a lot like Kemmon) I felt that there might be a family connection based upon the names being similar on the children. I am also interested in Lemuel Edmonson in the same district of Williamson County in the 1900, 1910, 1920 Census of Williamson County. When I found my great grandmother and great grandmother in the Williamson County Census they were in District 21 and 22 of Williamson County. I am grasping at straws in hope that some of the above mentioned Edmonson (Edmondson) family will be of help to me. Thank you very much.

If anyone has ancestors in this cemetery, please pay it a visit and check out their graves. It has been cleared at least 3x in the past two years and now is a great time to visit. Turn into the Horton Cove subdivision and go straight back to the cemetery. If anyone has time, there is still some light trimming that needs to be done. Loppers, clippers, light weight weed eater. Stuff close to the stones.

There are a few stones that need to be repaired. There are a number of field stones that are broken off. If you can identify any of these graves, please place a marker there. The furneral homes may provide a small metal marker (shouldn't be expensive). Another, temporary inexpensive marker could be made from a soft drink can and a stick. Old scissors will cut the can apart. Then one can take a ball point pin and write the name/info for the individual and maybe descendant contact info, if someone wanted to be contacted about care of this cemetery. The Shaw family had a reunion this summer and it was related to me that they wanted to plan for continued care of the cemetery. There is quite a bit of info on the internet regarding the proper way to clean stones, reset and repair stones.
