McMinn Co., TN: Zion Hill. I would like information on the BAYLESS family of Zion Hill. There may be Zion Hill Baptist Church records or graves in Zion Hill for the BAYLESS family. I have just received a copy of the SCC claim made by my ancestor John P. BAYLESS who stated that he lived in Zion Hill at the time the Union army took some goods from him. John P. and his family later lived in Catoosa and Walker Co.s, GA. He made his claim in Walker Co., GA. Some of the children of John P. were born in TN and some in GA. It is possible that some members of the BAYLESS family belonged to the Zion Hill Baptist Church. John's father was Samuel P. BAYLESS, John's mother's name is not known for certain but she was probably Sarah HAMPTON. John's wife was Martha Jane Franklin, they were married in Athens in 1845.
