I am interested in any all information I can get on the Burn House located at Niota, McMinn Co., TN. This house was built by my husband's ggggrandfather John Franklin Shearman, the construction of the house was from 1845-1849 and was done with slave labor. Our first knowledge of this house came to us when we visited the Athens area in October 1999. John Franklin's father, Thomas Shearman, came to the Bradley-Monroe-McMinn areas in the mid 1830's. Their first born child Thomas J. b. Nov 14, 1831 in Monroe Co. he married Sarah Elizabeth Cate, dau of Elijah Cate and Nellie Davis, on Jan 11, 1853 McMinn Co. Their oldest son Thomas "Neil" b. Mar 17, 1855 McMinn Co. d. Mar 7, 1898 McMinn Co. was at one time mayor of Athens. He was killed by a cousin in the law offices of Gaston & Madison on Mar 7, 1898. Neil married Harriett E. Deatherage, dau of George Melton Deatherage and Parthenia A. McPhearson, in McMinn Co. They were the parents of George Thomas b. 1878 d. 1945 WA, Marie Mabel b. 1880 d. 1884 McMinn Co., Elijah Dibrell b. 1882 d. 1883, Grover C. b. 1884, Emma Peak b. 1887 d. 1959 PA, Frankie Tolson b. 1888 d. 1889 McMinn Co., Harriett Neil b. 1893 d. 1965 Chattonooga, Harriett died in 1893 and Neil married Katherine Rudd about 1895 and they had a son James Harris "Jim" b. 1896. I have a lot of info on Neil's children. Thank you
