I am very interested in knowing where you found your listing of a William Hood Sr. and William Hood Jr. and what information you have on William Hood Sr.
According to my research, William Hood Jr. is my ggg grandfather and maybe I can shed some light his family listed in the 1830 census. The 2 males under 5 are William J. and Amos H., 1 male 10-15 is Duncan, and William Jr. 30-40; 1 female under 5 is Mary A.; 2 females 5-10 is Catherine J. and Nancy Ann; and wife 30-40 is Sarah E.
The reason you were unable to find William Hood Jr. in the 1840 census was because he had moved to Greene County Missouri according to "Opening The Ozarks: 1835-1839, First 1,000 Families in Southwest Missouri", VOL. II G-M, page 1002 where it states he had entered this land on 10 December 1838.
I have additional copies of land grants and purchases from the Greene County Missouri records. I have the descendants of William Hood Jr. to present that I am willing to share with anyone.
Do you have additional records of William Hood Sr. or his parents, stating where he might have came from before living in Tennessee?
Being the ggg grandson of William Hood Jr. I am still living on the land that he entered on 10 December 1838.
