OBITUARY

MATLOCK --- Charles L. Matlock, the subject of this sketch was born in Rhea county, Tenn., Nov. 2nd, 1829, was married to Miss Lou Howard in early life; eight children were born unto them, (four of whom are now in the better land), after which the wife deceased. Bro. Matlock then united in matrimony with Miss Ellen M. Hutsell with whom he lived happily until the day of his death, which was Jan. 19, 1897. He was a gentleman in business, a good neighbor, a splendid citizen, and a kind husband and respected by all, but had not made peace with God until 2 days after his decease, when he asked Charles, his son, to pray with him, after which he realized great peace, and
said to his friends, the way is bright, and the last thing he said was, "almost home." His burial at Riceville was witnessed by many sorrowful friends. May the Lord bless the stricken wife and children, and at last gather them safely to Himself in the skies, where parting will be no more. Hazen Oaks, P.C.
