I found this message through a google search:
"My husband's grandfather died in a Monroe County poorhouse. All we know is that it was located out on hwy 68 towards Tellico. We found grave sites, but there are no names on grave markers. We met the owners of the property and they showed us around. The sad thing is that there were no records kept."

I recently transcribed the 1850 census of Monroe Co, TN and there is a Poor House listed in it. It is in District 14 Household # 1715. The listing is as follows;
Wm. Marshall ---- age 60 b. NC----Supt. of Poor House
Mary age 51 b. NC
Hetty age 25 b. NC
Lucinda age 20 b. TN
Isaac age 17 b. TN
Joshua Arden age 90 b. NC---occupant of Poor House
Elizabeth Burnett 50 b. TN

Poorhouse Residents from the 1880 Census, District 8, MONROE County
"The keeper of the poorhouse was Jeremiah STILES.
Inmates of the poorhouse were listed as:
James SMITH 82 T T T
Loucinda SMITH 72 T T T
Elizabeth SMITH 37 T
All listed as paupers.
Also listed was Easter BANDY 60 NC NC NC pauper.
Wish I had more but that's all. Hoping it will help someone."
