LAND GRANT NO. 228 --- The State of North Carolina conveys and grants unto JOHN SEVIER, his heirs and assigns the following land: A tract of land containing twenty five thousand and sixty acres lying and being in our County of Sumner, (now Overton and Clay), on the waters of the Cumberland River, joining a survey of Stockley Donadlson on Eagle Creek. Beginning at a hickory, the N East corner of said survey, running thence with the Virginia line East two thousand poles to a stake on the said line; thence due South four thousand one hundred poles to a stake; thence West two thousand poles to a stake; thence to the beginning. Surveyed by virtue of forty warrants of six hundred and forty acres each, as by the plat herewith annexed. Doth appear together with all woods, wares, mines, minerals, hereditaments and appurtenances to the said land belonging or appertaining, to hold to the said JOHN SEVIER, his heirs and assigns forever,yielding and paying to us such sums of money yearly, otherwise as our General Assembly from time to time may direct.
